The EU told May early on to forget the trade deal until everything else is resolved, and she nodded ok. That assumes she didn't propose this part of her cunning plan to sabotage Brexit.

    Mine was.

New rules to check the details of all travelers leaving the UK were brought in under the Immigration Act 2014

Data on all passengers leaving the UK is being collected and handed to the Home Office under a scheme being phased in at ports and border crossings.
Transport staff are recording details of all travellers leaving by commercial air, sea and rail transport.
The exit checks were set to particularly affect cross-channel ferry and Channel Tunnel travellers.
The government said they were needed to combat illegal immigration and would cause the "least possible disruption".
Initial reports suggested the new system had started without any major problems, with no delays at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone or P&O Ferries' terminal in Dover.
For the first month all passports will be scanned but only 25% of the passport holders will have their details verified to ensure they are genuine, in a bid to minimise disruption.
After a month, there will be a move to 50% verification and by the middle of June 100% verification will be introduced.

But you still haven't explained, what is a 'meaningful vote' if not a slap in the face of everyone who voted Brexit?

Nice try, but there's absolutely nothing in my post that suggests I 'lack awareness' of Singapore's GDP...quite the opposite.

And as for the HDI, those places are adjusted for inequality and Singapore has plenty of that. BTW Nige..I used to live there, so my experience isn't just gained vicariously from those double breasted websites you seem to love.

Anyway, you've all been interrupting jabir's morning bowel movement which seems a bit thoughtless.

That attitude follows through to this forum where wankers like the Gent and Bob are constantly telling us they know what is good for us, they are no better than the parliament full of self serving politicians who feel likewise - well we lived in a democracy, as far as i am concerned i am still entitled to my opinion - its more or less a pointless shitflinging thread imho.
There are major differences between a referendum and a GE and it is quite absurd to think they are in any way similar. However, to turn the tables, if it's possible to remove a sitting MP, and have a by-election, why not allow a referendum result be reaffirmed by a second vote?

The meaningful vote was the bit tacked on to the EU Withdrawal Act in order to get it through Parliament. It's a defence mechanism, rather than a slap in the face, to ensure the Government doesn't do something silly, like leave the EU without a plan on what to do next.

So are you really deluded enough to think that a high GDP reliably transfers to high standards of living? It frequently does the opposite. The country with the highest GDP in Asia is Qatar. Those guys building those football stadiums must be living like kings, eh?

I'll ignore your silly cheap shot.

Well it had no need to allow in more of the dirt poor masses who'd work for nothing at that point did it...they were fully stocked. Duh.

    Not so the UK.

That you think the UK could emulate a small SE Asian city state in the 1970's is pretty much in tune with your other comical delusions as aired on this thread, so I give you marks for consistency.

The 1975 referendum had the chance to be reaffirmed in 2016 and it was rejected now people have seen what 40 years of membership has done.

Considering you posted that a referendum is merely a snapshot of public opinion, how absurd would it be to suggest the similarity, which you say is absurd, that a GE is also a snapshot of public opinion?

I'm merely pointing out that successful capitalism relies on a steady flow of people who need to work hard for rewards that are meagre. You appear to think that it's about someone having a good idea and this results in a land of milk and honey. I am talking about reality for the whole of society, not 'focussing on the bottom'.

I dont know how or what the system is , but the US keeps strict track of where their citizens are when out of the country,
So my wife was traveling with China airlines from BKK to JFK with a connecting flight in Beijing
Got in the plane in BKK and called me from the plane telling me she was in her seat and preparing to take of, I never got a call from her connecting airport and thought that she probably did not have WiFi .and waited for her at JFK at the designated arrival time. Her flight arrived,I waited until everyone got out of the plane, and she was not on it. I went to the China airlines kiosk to find out what had happened to my wife. They told me that she was supposed to be on the flight but they had no idea what happened. It was a Saturday, and they told me that their office was closed and I will have to wait until monday to find out what happened to my wife.
LIKE HELL i SAID and called the police, the airport police came , calmed me down and asked me if my wife was a US citizen, I said she was, and they said no problem , let's call customs,
Customs had a complete record where my wife had being, and was. they told me that they had missed their connecting flight, that she was in the next flight, and will be arriving in two hours.
Needles to say, we are never again flying China airlines.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

^^Well you're making a lot of assumptions there, Nige.

Not sure why you're so keen to get personal.

One might almost think you were a returning poster with a grudge yourself.

Better to leave places that cannot be compared out of things and stick to your laudable aims of a UK with free trade.

I must admit, it would be great if there were a trading block which made this possible with the country's neighbours.

    Oh wait...

I mentioned that I worked there, so that's justification for all manner of snide comments about my circumstances?

I made no implication at all about my circumstances, you're just looking to justify your cheap shots.

It's telling that you think one would have to be poor just to be aware that the poor exist.
