Cash, wealth, credit, and any seemingly intrinsic worth/value is nothing short of illusion...that we've created for ourselves.

Hopefully a cashless society is a long way off..

Pisses me off every time I deal with banks and CC companies...seems they can bleed you dry with all their charges for accessing your own money with impunity.

Good thing about Thailand is that it is a primarily cash society.

Agree that we all will be fk'd in the event of any major world wide disaster ....we will all be killing each other over a dead rat... as my wife always tells me 'you cannot eat gold'.....

That would be making the giant assumption the "companies" would or could survive an electronic/petro supply meltdown.

In which case the currency will become tangible commodities; rice, taters, frijoles, and little chili peppers.

Your trusty electric world would darken considerably.

Start thinking about new biz like making sails, bicycles, and water saving technology.
What we are talking about here is a cashless society, obviously this assumes that we still have electricity.

I believe you've confused this thread with a thread about Y2K or some kind of post-apocalyptic wasteland.

How long ago it is that anyone got paid a salary in cash? the 60's?

Anyone ever bought a car using a cheque book?

The only thing that will change is small transactions. That being said it will disturb me if one cannot pay with cash because I might not have the correct type of card for the system I am trying to use? Banks will charge businesses for using plastic and they won't be able to do anything about it.

Might create some competition as phone companies will allow purchases to be put on one's phone bill?

It costs money to restock ATM's and banks don't like that.

Where will a lap dancer keep her eftpos machine?

You should never allow yourself to be held back merely by not knowing anything at all about anything.

I don't think you've thought this through mate in all honesty.

I'm talking about any transaction you want to keep private.

But even that isn't really the biggest problem. In Europe, they have already began trial runs of savings confiscation. The government of Cyprus confiscated 10% of their citizens savings accounts when they couldn't pay back their debt. Think about it. Your money forced into a broken and bankrupt system. That is major fucking disaster.

If you don't see a problem with that, well I don't what I can say to convince you but its a terrible idea and people like you will likely never see the reasons why until its too late.

There are virtual currencies around that act as the electronic version of cash. They are highly volatile and atm really only used to buy drugs and darkmarket stuff. There's always gonna be a demand for cash-like markets so there will always be an alternative even if it is not something you physically hold in your hand.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

I might try that one, next time I get a bill through the letterbox.
I'm sure my bank will understand - they are just a figment of my imagination, after all...

Nobody, of course has ever been told, by the polite machine, "Service is unavailable at the present time", "Unable to issue cash at the present time", "Your account does not have enough credit" or "An error has occurred, please contact you bank".

All available to those that control you, at a press of a button.

One wonders when the "leaders" will ban air. To stop the terrorists breathing. Ban airplanes - because terrorists use them, ban guns and bullets - because terrorists use them...........

Best get some items one can barter with.
