Hopefully a cashless society is a long way off..
Pisses me off every time I deal with banks and CC companies...seems they can bleed you dry with all their charges for accessing your own money with impunity.
Good thing about Thailand is that it is a primarily cash society.
Agree that we all will be fk'd in the event of any major world wide disaster ....we will all be killing each other over a dead rat... as my wife always tells me 'you cannot eat gold'.....
How long ago it is that anyone got paid a salary in cash? the 60's?
Anyone ever bought a car using a cheque book?
The only thing that will change is small transactions. That being said it will disturb me if one cannot pay with cash because I might not have the correct type of card for the system I am trying to use? Banks will charge businesses for using plastic and they won't be able to do anything about it.
Might create some competition as phone companies will allow purchases to be put on one's phone bill?
It costs money to restock ATM's and banks don't like that.
Where will a lap dancer keep her eftpos machine?
Like using a credit card at a used car parts place just outside Vegas?Quote:

That is major fucking disaster.
If you don't see a problem with that, well I don't what I can say to convince you but its a terrible idea and people like you will likely never see the reasons why until its too late.

There are virtual currencies around that act as the electronic version of cash. They are highly volatile and atm really only used to buy drugs and darkmarket stuff. There's always gonna be a demand for cash-like markets so there will always be an alternative even if it is not something you physically hold in your hand.
Nobody, of course has ever been told, by the polite machine, "Service is unavailable at the present time", "Unable to issue cash at the present time", "Your account does not have enough credit" or "An error has occurred, please contact you bank".Quote:

One wonders when the "leaders" will ban air. To stop the terrorists breathing. Ban airplanes - because terrorists use them, ban guns and bullets - because terrorists use them...........
