A Tennessee teenager shot his grandmother after being told to get out of bed for school, police say.
The 16-year-old boy's 12-year-old sister and six-year-old nephew were also injured in Tuesday morning's attack at an east Nashville apartment block.
Nobody suffered life-threatening injuries, Metro Nashville Police Department said in a news release.
The shooter's grandmother, Earline Hill, 67, and mother, Sheryl Williams, 42, told officers the teenager lost his temper after they told him to get ready for school.
"There was a quarrel about getting up and getting ready for the day when the 16-year-old ran to a closet, got a 9mm handgun and started firing," Nashville police spokeswoman Kris Mumford told the Tennessean newspaper.
Ms Hill was struck at least twice, while the attacker's nephew and sister suffered graze wounds.
According to the Tennessean, the teen also tried to shoot his mother, but she ducked behind a couch.
The teen's two-year-old sister was also present but was uninjured.
Police said the unnamed attacker ran away from the Berkshire Place Apartments, but was soon caught.
The family told police they did not know the 16-year-old had a gun in the home.
The boy, who attends a school for troubled students, has been refusing to talk to detectives.
He has been charged in juvenile court with four counts of attempted homicide and one count of reckless endangerment.
The suspect's uncle, Joseph Williams, told local TV station WSMV his nephew had seemed no more difficult to deal with than any other teenager.
"You get a little older … your britches get too big for you," he told the broadcaster.
"But you've got to realise you're in someone else's house."
