Should there be a Constitutional Amendment banning U.S. flag desecration or burning?
Is desecrating the flag a form or Free Speech and/or Political Expression?

No, there should not be any such laws.

Start buring this flag and I bet there would be laws against it.

Burn any flag you want.
In case it slipped your feeble mind, kerux, I believe that's about the most burned flag on the planet.
Still, and offer is an offer even from a sad fok as your good self, so what would you care you wager, or was that characteristic bluster getting the better of your slow side?
It's ok the Palestinian are there to make sure that flag is bombed every time they get a chance. Those Israelis scums deserve it for supporting such an Apartheid.
One of my questions:
What does a flag represent?
A nation-state?
I don't see the symbolic importance given to flags of nation-states to the degree that they are.
^
It's astonishing how much meaning and emotion is attached to such a thing. Images are very profound carriers of meaning.
Yes, and it's a bit disturbing. Icon worship, really.
In the U.S. the Americans wear the "flag on their sleeve," in some sort of faddish patriotism.
But they seem to know little about the U.S. when I talk with them.
Zombies.
My opinion on flag burning is: it is free speech and espression and anything should be able to be done with it.
The politicians have tried to start up Amendments, but it's always died.
People should realize one thing I think is very sacred about the U.S. is that you can burn the flag and not be beaten, killed, nor imprisoned.
............
It's damaging of property or worse, when it's someone else's flag, though.
Here an example:
Flags replaced with swastikas in Wash.Flags replaced with swastikas in Wash.
ORCAS ISLAND, Wash. -- Vandals burned dozens of small American flags that decorated veterans' graves for Memorial Day and replaced many of them with hand-drawn swastikas, authorities said Monday.
...
I agree about the damaging of property.
I am from about 2.5 hours away from Orcas Island.
Probably just vandals. Love it how the media goes bonkers. I've read that article on several websites.
Actually the reason why I started this thread is because of the article below from Boston. This did involve taking and ruining other people's property so I didn't include in the OP.

Peace through flag-burning
I don't care how you treat the flag as long as you keep your trap shut and keep your condenscending comments to yourself about how I treat the flag. I'll worship the fucking thing if I want to and it's none of your damn business.
Sright, you fcuking tell them!!
Burn The American Flag All You Want---- But I Will Bet Ya $100 Dollars You Wont Do It Out Side Of A Rally And Alone On A Street Corner During Rush Hour Here In The States !!!

I agree with Butterfly.
Especially with the sentiment today over the last few years.
Flag burning and flag desecrating goes back a few decades (and probably more)
During the VN war era people (mostly students) would put a patch of the flag on their bum (of their jeans) and therefore you were sitting on the flag.
Why is burning a flag a freedom of speech issue? Surely it's freedom of expression, diiferent ball game?

Of course there should be no such law against it, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to burn a flag in the first place.
I think they tried to pass it as another amendment to the US constitution, not sure if it failed though
anyway, what's worse ? flag waving or flag burning ? I think the answer is obvious, those waving the flag are far more dangerous than those burning it.
