So how's Angela Merkel's austerity policies working out for Germany lately?

I hope the British government starts this new scheme in Manchester. Seems it's pretty grim up there. Some rough looking unemployed guy who hadn’t eaten for three days tried to set fire to the Moss Side job centre – so he could have a meal in police custody.

I can see where that could be a problem.....but if you replace "fired" with "firing squad" it might start working a whole lot better.....

FFS, read the article Peewee. It wasn't my take on it, it's what the guy himself said. I thought you'd at least stick up for your Manc mate. He looks like he's your kind of guy.

Yes, it is grim up there. Hopefully, when the Jocks stop leeching off English tax payers, they'll take the north with then.

Not as well as Mel Gibson's Year of Living Dangerously...no slinky chick waiting on the Tarmac for me...

Overall Marmite it was a great experience looking back...A definite advantage over those who went off to Uni or Gap years...

A disadvantage when knowing you just lost two years of your life and now have to play "catch up," with those who weren't drafted...

Definitely gives one a different perspective on what really matter's and what you find necessary to live...minimalism comes to mind...

There's always someone watching you Boon mee just ask the NSA...as for Charlie, he's was still there living in the shit when I left...I'm on the big bird headed back to the big P.X., clean clothes, running water, real food, lots of colors, no more ducking or sleeping in swamps getting eaten alive by mosquito's, round eyed women...no more shitting blood and soupy stools, finding maggots in your food and not caring, no more 43 degrees in the shade, no more red dirt, no longer the stench of burning shit...bla, bla, bla...

My favorite C-ration Lima beans and ham...desert Fruit cake from 1944...

Speaking to my Son last night he informs me the Paki's with a couple of kids have devised a new fiddle were they can get a free house, the mortgage being paid by the DHSS, it works like this ,the couple buy a cheap house ,after about 6 months they say they have broken up and cannot live together , the DHSS then provide the ex husband with a rent free house , they then rent it out to one of their many Paki Relatives , the ex husband sneaks back to his wife ,and the rent from the DHSS rented house pays the Mortgage !, of course I cannot vouch for the validity of the story , but there is a huge number of Paki's living in my area back there ,so I cannot say its beyond the realms of possibility's , so I have asked my Son to give the DHSS a confidential call just in case the story is kosher!.

    Whoops!

You know how bad us 'Merkins are with geography...

Anyhow, the weather in Cardiff isn't much different than Aberdeen - maybe a little warmer is all.

^ I wonder what the percentage of the unemployed are in this category...or, more likely, DM is digging up anything to paint a bad picture.

What about when the steel, coal and car industries collapsed with skilled and semi-skilled labour having to be retrained? You would prefer they (and their families) were made homeless or simply left the country?

The above does nothing to help those in genuine need...

As others as well as myself have stated there is something badly wrong with the "system" when you get far more for sitting on your arse than doing a honest days work, it needs a overhaul ,simply because its taken away the incentive , having to work for your handouts which comes from people who are in employment through their taxes could well be one of them. its my opinion that those receiving money from society should lend a helping hand to it in return by way of community service .
