According to the 2012 crime stats for Chicago, there were 384,000 serious crimes reported.

So if we do the math 384,000/2,700,000 - ~14%. Since many rapes and other crimes are not reported, and given that many of the criminals commit multiple crimes, than you could probably say that you could have a relatively, crime-free Chicago just by killing less than 10% of the population of Chicago (the hardcore criminal elements).

I would guess that the number would be actually much less, because even the most stupid criminal would soon catch on that committing serious crimes means a very short life.

So the real question, is whether killing a quarter million dirtbags in order to make the other 2 and a half million decent people, safe from these predators a good idea? I think so.

(But then again the liberals would probably lose way too many of their voters!)

Pistols in Thailand are ridiculously expensive and my pistol would be legally imported regardless of my current work/residency status in Thailand.

Anyone who has spent any time in Thailand learns that when it comes to Thai laws, there are "multiple ways to skin a cat". There are always "exceptions to policy".

One poster on another thread claimed that any pistol over .9mm cannot be legally owned by Thai citizens. I know for a fact that some Thai citizens legally own pistols of .45 caliber.

Talk about being naive.

"Property crimes" spoken like a true liberal or criminal (or criminal lawyer).

I consider home invasions, car jackings, and all other forms of felony robbery violent crimes. Whether violence is used or not, the potential is always there.

Apparently many lawmakers agree with me, as many states now have laws where a homeowner or resident can shoot an intruder without being charged.

Why leave it up to the intruder to decide if he/she wants to inflict harm? If someone breaks into your house, then it is no ones fault but theirs if they get shot.

Nothing insane about the idea of killing criminals in the commission of serious crimes as opposed to letting them get away to commit more crimes, or spending millions of taxpayer dollars in the revolving door of the US justice system.

If a small segment of the population cannot refrain from inflicting violence and theft from the majority, than let's get rid of that small cancer, so that honest people can live in peace and safety.

Here are a couple of pics from a few years ago, showing the wife and me with a couple of guns. The pictures were taken in two different homes, with two different Thai families. So yes, Virginia, guns are already readily available in Thailand.
