The answer lies with themselves. The so called Tea party has destroyed the credibility of the GOP. Many, if not most, 'reasonable republicans' have dropped the clown party now, or just keep their heads down. Fake scandals, ridiculous conspiracy theories, a record of failure, racism, sexism, Debt, gutter politics, anti-science, losing wars, outright lieing to the public, political obstructionism, fellating Israel at the expense of America, and the Rich and big biz at the expense of everyone else (heck, the Dem's ain't much better there). And at the root of it all, a virulent allergy to Truth and Facts. Angry old white guys, increasingly marginalised and bitter. That is the picture the Republicans present to middle America.

I suppose, when you're at the bottom of the trash heap, the only way is up. Hopefully a new generation of GOP leadership (not yet seen) can lift the party back into broad relevance in coming years. But the coming defeat is well deserved. As I've mentioned several times, my politics have traditionallly been 'mildly conservative'- I was VC for the National party in Sydney for a stint during the 1980's. I would never vote for the current Republican party- and thus speaks much of middle America too. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the party faithful no doubt, but it doesn't change the fact- they have lost the Middle ground with their own clownish politics and antics.

So go ahead- try the old tired and true technique of slinging mud, as expected (in the absence of any substantive or relevant policy positions, or record of success). Cling to the old lies and gutter politics, and watch the public yawn and turn away, in droves. The boy that cried wolf, anyone? The GOP needs to urgently re-invent itself, and a good way to start would be to sideline the Teabag loonies.

While I agree with almost everything what you wrote here,
    I have one question:
You wrote that the credibility of the GOP is destroyed.
    but,
Why have the republicans the majority in the House and in the Senate?

    Because of gerrymandering.

In 2012, the first congressional election after the last round of gerrymandering, Democratic House candidates won 50.59 percent of the vote — or 1.37 million more votes than Republican candidates — yet secured only 201 seats in Congress, compared to 234 seats for Republicans.

Not sure what the numbers are on voter suppression, but I'd bet it played a part in some districts. The Rethugs themselves know about this. They've bragged about its "success" in some elections. The congress is not a fair representation of the American electorate overall.

It's OK though, Hillary has said she wants automatic voter registration for all citizens at 18 years of age.

Let's see the clowns trying to get out of that one.

No I teach Spanish in Florida...relevance we might ask Hummer...Owned you say? So why exactly are you the standard bearer for HRC...certainly not due to any of her accomplishments which it seems even her own party cannot list, close friends or staff.

Why not run Bubba again? Oh that's what you're doing isn't it? Its not Hillary running is it in reality its the Ghost of Bubba that's really running this show and the antique Dem voters have fallen for the fake. 8 more years of Bubba, thats really what this vote is all about folks.

Traditional mid-term blowback (not entirely undeserved) and voter apathy.
Also, the GOP has a loyal regional support base, mainly in the south and south west.
Voter registration and turnout figures, as well as gerrymandering, favor the GOP too.

But as the GOP has lurched further to the right, the Dem's have claimed the middle ground. I don't see that changing under the current leadership. That is how you win a two party election.
Most of the GOP candidates are Tea party favorites (and no hopers), but it is almost certainly an 'establishment' GOP candidate that will win the nomination. Same with the Dem's, Bernie Sanders & Liz Warren may influence the discourse- but Hillary will get the nod, barring the unexpected. Boring.
I would say the main enemy of the Dem's is apathy, the main enemy of the GOP right wing radicalism. Boring vs Loony- boring generally wins.

Just curious Booners, did you PM Landreth and beg him to change the title of this thread? The title must rankle you as much as the title of the Ted Cruz thread does.

I'm not. As I said before, she sucks. I just dislike the politics of character assassination and the right wing philosphy that the end justifies the means. I would like the discourse to be about policy not hot air manufactured by extremists bent on doing anything, alleging anything to see her defeated.

The thing is Bert 'ol buddy, just anyone can engender more trust and support (candidate from the left or right - mabe not Sanders) than HRC.

She's damaged goods right off the starting line.

If, as psychologists say, “The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior,” then a fresh look at the top 20 scandals involving Hillary is in order.

Here they are: Hillary?s 22 biggest scandals ever

They don't get more corrupt than Bubba & his old lady...

    Still fairly early, Davis.

Her support is eroding as we speak. Big support for Rubio lately and he does look possible.

I wish Jeb had been Potus rather than his retarded younger brother. The GOP would certainly be in better shape now. Gonna take time to live down that debacle.

Hillary Clinton’s (Official Campaign Launch) speech today at Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island, NY (starts at 33:00).

It was a good long speech.
