^ I don't think it is apt to compare Norway and the US. Norway, whilst not a small country, can not support a population or immigration like that of the US- unless we learn how to eat snow.
As for opportunity, sure the US has got it. I could say many other good things about the US too. Your incumbent Presidential administration however, and the neo-conservative fringe group behind it, has been an unmitigated disaster.
I am patriotic.
But my patriotism does not include the military, military-industrial complex, nor PNAC/Neo-Con foreign policy. Nor does it include the "Manifest Destiny," nor the Monroe Doctrine, Carter Doctrine, etc.
The U.S. has the oldest living Constitution in the world.
I've visited Ben Franklin's grave in Philadelphia, and I've been to Monticello twice. The latter was the home of Jefferson, Whom I greatly admire.
I think people should never mix the military and patriotism.
............
I do not hate America.
Not at all.
But I am very disappointed with the government and foreign policy.
I've been researching and reading a lot about U.S. companies, the military that enforces their interests, and the policies of the U.S. government.
Also, I dislike the jingoism that has been displayed.
I like the U.S.
But I do have criticisms. Just like Boon Mee, and others.
We just focus on different things that we like and dislike.

I'll support the troops when they do what they swore to do when they signed up for the military - support and defend the US Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic.
I don't have any personal ego-involvement whether or not the troops are there but if one chooses to join the military through whatever motives - career, lack of money, whatever, they should be able to do so without criticism from anyone.
If someone like Pat Tillman chooses to go fight the Islamofascists after seeing the destruction they metted out on 9/11, who has a moral right to pass judgement on his motives?
ray carey seems to become so incensed by these soldiers he advocates their death vs. the enemies of freedom and democracy.
In addition, while our troops are over in Iraq building new schools, the terrorists are busy trying to blow them up.
"American soldiers discovered a girls school being built north of Baghdad had become an explosives-rigged "death trap," the U.S. military said Thursday.
The plot at the Huda Girls' school in Tarmiya was a "sophisticated and premeditated attempt to inflict massive casualties on our most innocent victims," military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said."

A Deplorable Bitter Clinger
Don't expect a sensible answer.
Boon Mee's reply to why the US went into Iraq when it wasn't responsible for 9/11 was.... to punish them for 9/11.
Logic and Boonie have never been close acquaintances
among other things, i guess sarcarsm is lost on you.
just 2 years ago, if someone had said what MM had posted, he most certainly would have encountered the question, 'why do you hate america'.
it was a joke. i know MM doesn't 'hate' america.
and as i have posted many times.....if a group of 5 GIs is captured, and their beheading is announced, advertised and ultimately broadcast on the web (say, one every night at 9 PM EST), then the inevitable US withdrawal would be pushed up, and less people would die.
yeah, 5 american kids would die, but thousands of innocent iraqis would live....and i'll take that deal any day.
you see, i don't buy your absurd 1950s form of nationalism......it's not a game, and there really is no 'winning' for the people in iraq. maybe there is for those following the war in the newspaper, and posting about it on a thailand based internet message board.
of the scores of people killed yesterday in iraq (no link needed because scores of people die everyday), how many of them care who's winning the game?
and this brings me to

in fact, a better case could be made for this war being fought in israel....
put up a jersey barrier around the entire country (the construction time would provide any rational israelis, palestinans and christians enough time to get the hell out) , and then have a cage match.....whoever is left standing can have it.
Doesn't matter, we're there now so enough with the Monday morning quarterbacking. If we leave Iraq in the state it's in right now, expect more bombs to go off in London & NY...fer sure...
And, to turn the question around, why do you (all who hate the GI's in Iraq) have such ego-involvement in this issue? Got any family mambers who were drafted and are forced to serve over there?![]()

C'mon, USrael destroyed Iraq because it was a ME enemy of Israel. That's why Israel continues its genocide against the Palestinians and will attack Syria and Iran and then Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
They are building a Greater Israel in the ME.
