Romney's loss in Iowa is not surprising given his Mormon belief. Although Huckabee beat him, Romney will do better in New Hampshire. McCain will gain the most from Romney's defeat.

Shocking news coming in: Romney has just been projected the winner of the Wyoming caucus.

(CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will win the Wyoming Republican caucuses, CNN projects.

Mitt Romney will win the Wyoming Republican caucuses, CNN projects.

With 91 percent of precincts reporting, Romney has won eight of Wyoming's 12 delegates.

Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson has won two, and California Rep. Duncan Hunter has won one.

Wyoming's Republican contest comes two days after the Iowa caucuses and three days before the New Hampshire primary.

I was being sarcastic, tex. My bad.

Idaho might be another state. Apparently some Mormons have been moving there, and they recently build a large temple, there in the South East Corner of the state.

Aside from the religious issue, Romney is a force.

But in general it seems like the field of candidates is not too appealing to me.

This poll was taken "last year" and we don't know by whom. But as Tchiowa notes, if Romney was a WASP he'd likely fit the bill.

Yet the Mormons’ political loyalty is not fully reciprocated by their fellow Republicans. Twenty-nine percent of Republicans told the Harris Poll last year that they probably or definitely would not vote for a Mormon for president. Among evangelicals, some of the discomfort is narrowly religious: Mormon theology is sometimes understood as non-Christian and heretical. Elsewhere, the reasons for the aversion to Mormons are harder to pin down — bigotry can be funny that way — but they are certainly not theological. A majority of Americans have no idea what Mormons believe.

This is the only thread I could find dedicated to Mitt Romney.

It's from before my time on TD and interesting to read in light of the fact Romney will be running for president against Obama this election.

Poor Republicans. Hang your heads in shame.

Hope no one minds if I bump it and add on.

    Romney double talks

As of late, Romney has been outraged over a comment about his wife, Ann, by Hillary Rosen, that Ann had "never worked a day in her life."

His reply was "I happen to believe all moms are working moms."

Earlier this year he spoke to the NRA about tightening up already strict welfare rules to send mothers to work.

“I wanted to increase the work requirement,” Romney said in January. “I said, for instance, that even if you have a child two years of age, you need to go to work. And people said, ‘Well that’s heartless,’ and I said ‘No, no, I’m willing to spend more giving daycare to allow those parents to go back to work. It’ll cost the state more providing that daycare, but I want the individuals to have the dignity of work.”

By backing the Ryan budget, Romney would also reduce or eliminate the funding for childcare that he claims to believe is essential.

Ah yes, but what's the alternative? Four more years of massive unemployment, stimulus jobs going to foreign nationals, racial division becoming worse, pipeline projects rejected out of hand etc., etc?

There's been plenty written about Romney's tax plan which he outlined at a private fundraiser on Saturday night. It's got the reporters and bloggers banging away on their calculators to see if his plan adds up.

They don't. There is no way to reduce the deficit with his plan.

A good article with graph showing losses and savings with this Romney proposal.

Romney will do better and get some dept leaders who have worked in the REAL world to fix the mess obama will leave in his wake.
Oh, and Romney is ahead of Obama by 5 points in the latest Gallup poll.

Yes, I see him doing it all the time on Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS) ... but it's usually for veterans and their families.

As a matter of a fact I see the wives of Obama and Biden on AFRTS doing things for active duty, veterans and their families a lot more than I ever did the wives of Bush and Cheney.

Heard a stat tonight, 65% of people who say they will vote for Mitt are doing so cause he's not Obama. Charming man, isn't he? I doubt very much his waaaay lop-sided loss will have anything to do with Mormonism but everything to do with the fact there just aren't enough high-income White men voters to get him in.

    Here’s the survey/poll: http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2012/im...4/16/rel4a.pdf

BASED ON 476 RESPONDENTS WHO PLAN TO VOTE FOR ROMNEY -- SAMPLING ERROR: +/- 4.5 PERCENTAGE PTS.

    4. (Asked of Romney voters) Is that more a vote FOR Mitt Romney or more a vote AGAINST Barack Obama?

    Vote for Romney 35%
    Vote against Obama 63%
    No Opinion 3%

    Here’s a question I liked,…….

    9. Thinking about the following characteristics and qualities, please say whether you think each one applies more to Barack Obama or more to Mitt Romney.

    Is likeable
    Obama 56%
    Romney 27%

Nobody (not many) even likes that snot Romney.

Romney is lacking support from women, hispanics, younger voters, gays, dog owners, males under 65, sane people, etc.

But Romney does have that bigot vote locked up

Now Mitt's tellin Bama to get packing, as his wife sits at his side and snickers. Andrea Mitchell torn him a new one. Mitt should hire Charlie McCarthy to do his talking. And look at the GOP's VP lineup. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

Romney spoke at gypsum plant in Ohio Thursday blaming the plant's closure on the bad economy created by Obama's poor policies.

Romney didn't address the fact the plant was closed in 2008 when Bush was president.

The housing market nosedived during the Bush presidency.

As this snippet states, the disagreements and attention to the Santorums of the GOP are lessening and the GOP is coming together to hone Romney's and the GOP's image.

    Only 6 months to go.

It's marketing time. Craft and refine the image. Regurgitate pleasant and unpleasant soundbites.

In the poll, 33% view Romney positively -- which is higher than it has ever been in the survey -- versus 36% who view him negatively. That's an improvement from March, when his score was 28% positive-39% negative.
Much of this can be attributed to Republicans who have begun to coalesce around Romney. In March, his score with them was 50%-16%; now it's 62%-12%.

Heh...Romney Visits Empty Factory to Mock Obama.

LORAIN, Ohio — Mitt Romney, shadowing President Barack Obama on the campaign trail, went to the battleground state of Ohio to appear at a shuttered industrial warehouse to dramatize his complaints about the incumbent’s economic policies.
“It underscores the failure of this president’s policies with regard to getting the economy moving,’’ Mr. Romney said standing in a cavernous, empty warehouse festooned with a banner that read `Obama Isn’t Working.’ “If you want to know where his vision leads open your eyes.’’

Vision? Vision? I tell ya Obama's only vision is complete destruction of Capitolism in America and redistribution of wealth.

Back in reality the Romneybot once again proved how awkward he is in dealing with real people insulting a person who brought cookies to a campaign event..

Having exhausted the social-media war over which candidate hates dogs the most, the traveling gaffe circus that is the presidential general election campaign has moved on to another hot-button issue: did Mitt Romney make an elitist quip about bakery cookies?

Romney’s out of touch! Or this video clip was just another moment of forced small-talk by the Republican candidate. This Tuesday, the presumptive GOP nominee headed to Pennsylvania to attend an event in the Pittsburgh area, where he was seen in a video seated at a picnic table with a spread of picnic-type foods, including some cookies of mysterious origin.

(MORE: Romney Adviser’s Unerasable Etch-a-Sketch Comment)

“I’m not sure about these cookies,” a tentative Romney says in the clip. “They don’t look like you made them…they came from the local 7-Eleven…bakery or wherever.”

Of course, as Pittsburgh’s CBS and ABC affiliates point out, those weren’t just any old 7-Eleven cookies. They were “from Bethel Bakery, a longtime South Hills staple known for its signature pastries, cookies and cakes,” ABC’s WTAE News reported.

Oops: Mitt Romney just offended a local dining establishment. Naturally, the bakery drummed up a creative sales promotion to capitalize on the attention of the inevitably named incident, “Cookiegate.”

“7-Eleven bakery, where in the world is that?” John Walsh, owner of Bethel Bakery said in the news clip posted by CBS Pittsburgh. “Then I said…if we ever get a second shot at this, you know, he’ll know that he had a treat that he just didn’t realize just how highly coveted and beloved it really is.”

The real entity harmed in the harmless political gaffe, however, has to be 7-Eleven. The fluorescent-lit mega-chain, after all, was the generic place that Romney assumed someone would buy cookies from. Naturally, the 7-Eleven director of communications, Margaret Chabris, didn’t seem to see the comment negatively.

“Mitt Romney was right in thinking the cookies at a Pennsylvania event Tuesday could have come from a 7-Eleven bakery,” Chabris said to CNN, later adding: “More than 5,500 7-Eleven stores in the U.S. get cookies, donuts, muffins and other bakery items made fresh daily.”

With all the noise the lamestream media is making about Romney's wealth, don't seem to recall such hand-wringing over the Kennedy fortune. Or, for that matter, John Kerry. Or the fact that John Kerry gave virtually nothing to charity while Romney gave something on the order of $4 million... in addition to giving away his entire inheritance from his father.

But wait! Just remembered - Romney is Republican. Kerry and the Kennedys are Democrats. Also, Romney worked for his money. Kennedy inherited his. And Kerry married it. Minor details, eh?
