    The bars are getting empty.

I've been really surprised at the high number of punters in Pattaya over the last month, (proper punters that is),
but the bars are suddenly getting very empty, very quickly...
Last year I was over here til March and it only really started to slow down then,
this year seems it will be a bit tougher for the owners and for the girls.

Have not been out to the bars in Pattaya for about 2 months (apart from New Years Eve) and if what you are saying is happening across the board it is bad news.

I have been receiving text messages of late from a lot of bar owners announcing they have special deals on drinks, free buffets and sausage sizzles etc etc and in an attempt to draw in punters.

Who would ever want to own a bar in Thailand and with what's happening at the moment.

Yeah it's all well and good 'the experts' telling us that everything is hunky dory again and we're coming out of the recession, but there's still many a business enterprise throughout the world that's still hurting.

Maybe they're all running home to sign up for "sex addition" treatment like Tiger did. Personally I'd prefer to spend my money on bar fines.

No wonder, they are all the same girls of the year before, just one year older and uglier

The big hotels are full, of three day package tourists, Koreans, Japs etc, they come, they sun by the pool, buy a few trinkits and a McDonalds and go again.
Then there are the masses of Russians, that buy a bag of crisps and a bottle of voddy between them and wander up and down the street, but don't go in the bars.
The Iranians seem up for it there's lots of them and at least they can do here what they can't in their own country, drink and screw, but they're not big spenders.
The Germans hog the tables outside shophouses and pay 35 baht a bottle for their beers.

Pattaya is not the same anymore, perhaps you think for the better, perhaps TAT's message is working, but Pattaya was built on drinking and whoring, and that is where the majority of the money gets spent and distributed, and a two month season is not good for anyone.

People are finding new places to go. I've sat here listening to them saying "I think ill go somewhere else next trip".

Other places have not got so greedy yet.

Indeed, in the Uk, the Premier league clubs' spending in the January transfer window was about £30m - a seven-year low and well down on last year's £170m.

Question remains, is this the new "normal" we are witnessing or will things get back to where they were before?

Hard to tell, Hell I thought when I quit drinking that they would have to lay off some folks from the Bud Brewery and Gallo winery,, but they just kept on clicking along..

But there was a noticable drop in the Mad Dog 20 Wine sales tho.

^ If you venture down into the Gringo Gulch, be prepared for overprices drinks & services, slappers with poor attitudes and not many smiling faces...

You can find plenty of that, you can also find bars where a cold Leo or similar is 40 bht. Try Janes Bar, soi New Plaza.

If you're anywhere on WS you're fair game, but there are lots of places outside of the gringo gulch where you don't feel a sharp pain in your posterior protuberance for the price of a drink and some atmosphere... It's just a matter of finding them... That's half the fun...
