A day in the life in the North

Looking for a source.



Anybody know a place that converts trucks to a flatbed? I have done a bit of research with my Thai friends but nothing is coming up. If anybody knows who does this conversion I'd appreciate it. I have seen them around.

Been raining the last few days but much needed.





Been busy around the place. Cleaned out the pond and my Crawdad seemed to really enjoy it. That guy is 5+ years old and I wouldn't want to get clipped by his claws.



Today picked up the supplies to tile up the back part of the shop area where my FIL spends most of his time. It was just cemented but always dirty and hard to just broom up.





While I was at it, I cleaned up the other side of the shop and tossed out a bunch of shit that was my FIL's but will never be used.





Wife and I stopped off at our fav little food place and there was a pretty large Thai Harley group showing up as we sat down. While I am not a HD type, some of them were pretty nice.



Break in the rain so I took a break and had a nice Whiskey sour. Shortly after, the Rain came back and has not stopped

Up very early on a Saturday to head off for an ATV ride in Soem Ngam area mountains to catch a view in the early morning. A Thai friend of mine showed me some trails to ride to the mountains. Took a few hours to get to the top. The riding was slow in many areas.







Outstanding view of the some of the Northern mountains. I have some Vids that I will add soon. I have to say this was ride was a lot of work and a lot of low gear climbing through narrow trails ( or no trails at all) over varying and shale type terrain. This type of riding wears you out but it is really fun and when you get to the peak its a nice place to have some lunch and just sit.



As I parked at a peak I saw this walking stick insect on my tire. I picked it up and it just walked all over me. Very cool unique insect.



On way back down the mountain came across this lake. Sure is pretty out here and extremely quiet

Well lemme tell ya DW. I left at 6:45am ish and it was 15c. As I got to the mountain area it was only 8am or so and it was already 22c and it was warm. Still a nice view of the area at the top as much of the fog was burning off. Sadly in a month or so you will not be able to see those mountains once all the burning shit starts.

I doubt you will find one that looks like that, made in LOS. That type of flatbed looks like it is Australian. They have plenty of companies that make pretty cool conversions complete with airtight drawers and even water tanks. See here...

I am still looking. I am talking with a truck offroad Fab shop in Ayutthaya about it. They have done a few.

Maybe reach out to Fondles. His outfit do bespoke customs for trucks ? Or the company he used to work for did..we had a bunch of land rovers fitted out by them. They were a prick of a vehicle though
Assembled in south Africa and couldn't compete with a land cruiser or even a Ford ranger. Downright dangerous in a mountainous environment actually. I refused to drive them the 20 year old land cruiser done a better job

Some purchasing clown got a kick back and hey presto, we stuck with these fucking things. The ignition key faced the door. The steering wheel was HUGE and I couldn't start the thing without opening the door, couldn't drive it with windows up, no room even the 5 ft lao boys were wringing. Eventually got some after market seat rail extenders to get a bit more leg space. Fucking things

I would do that but oddly enough small trailers are not common and a problem with the police. Crazy I know. I had a trailer for my ATV states and made life easy.

As odd as it is, you can't even drive around with your tailgate down for some who knows why reason.

So a flatbed solves all that.

They had the same shit in Lao. Can't tow a little trailer behind your ute without an endorsement on your licence. They do a lot of funny shit in Lao. One year they made wearing seatbelts compulsory without telling anyone then the cops really made bank. The public were pissed. So they reversed that law. Back to you don't have to wear a seatbelt. So they don't. Yet it's illegal to drive with your lights on during the day. . Kinda strange

It's the opposite in several European countries. Poland, Bulgaria, and Serbia mandate you must drive with your headlights on during the day.

^ I'm used to Scandinavia where, at least in Norway and Sweden, it has been mandatory to have headlights on when you drive, day or night. At lest back to my experience of Norway which goes back around 30 years. When I first started living in Thailand I automatically put my headlights (or at least side lights) on in the daytime when I drove, and the wife went on about how the police wouldn't like it and would pull me over. Mind you, she talks a lot of shite.

I see now that many of the newer cars, especially upper range, have sidelights on permanently, which makes good sense to me. I have no idea what the law is in Thailand but I will continue to have lights on in the daytime.

As for trailers, I was talking to someone about this just yesterday. One day I would like a small boat and the easiest way is to have a small trailer rather than pay exorbitant marina fees. I was told that in Thailand you bizarrely need a commercial license to row a trailer, yet of course the vast majority of 'aliens' in this damn country are denied a commercial license because that would imply that they are working. It's great, ain't it.

If you are serious about getting a trailer, maybe give Upbeat Trailers a call. They should be able to tell you if a regular car licence is suitable for a small boat trailer. I have towed a couple of trailers in Thailand, but surprisingly have never been stop by the police, so can't say if it is legal or not. I always assumed it was okay on my private car licence.

Thanks Barty. I have contacted a few trailer places. They are available but the issue is when you travel through varying provinces. I have seen quite a few off to the side at roadside scams and you know it's about paying a fee. A flat bed eliminates that nonsense.

Yeah the trailer thing is a crap shoot. If I was going to have a small boat I would set up a rack to carry it. Toss the motor in the bed and all good. Weird shit here with trailer towing.
