ref mahogany, it seems it was introduced in the early C20th

Philippines had S. macrophylla introduced in 1907 and in 1913 as well as S. mahagoni in 1911, 1913, 1914, 1920 and 1922. Planting resumed in the late 1980s. It was planted with many other exotic tree species for the purpose of reforestation.

The sanding is finally finished... any Aussie would be proud of this job.

The coffee table which may or may not be teak.

And the dining table which may or may not be mahogany.

The dining table sits 10 so there's usually at least 8 spare places.

Both tables have nice features and I'm looking forward to getting the Danish Oil on them this weekend to see how they come out.

^ looking now i am going

Coffee Table - Teak ( Large pores and Dark bands) and the white sap wood

    Dinning Table - is Mahogany

If you can use Tung Oil on the teak, don't use the mahogany Danish Oil

    edit

you might want some plastic under the feet unless you want to stain whet they are sat on

imo - you have different woods so celebrate their differences and don't stain them the same like they were, the tung oil will keep the teak a lighter shade.

If you cannot get tung don't worry just get a lighter shade danish oil. Danish gives a satin type sheen whereas tung is more matt - up to you

you are definitely going to want to put plastic sheet down or your floor will look like you've had and old mini with an A series engine parked on it after you've finished oiling your wood

I think you'll be pleased with the results, they'll look much better than with that treacle thais apply to wood

We've got a tarpaulin somewhere I'll put down first.

Thanks for the link. I just pasted in the link results in Shopee into Lazada (I haven't used Shopee) and the same 250g bottle is there for 99 Baht!

I'd always try an application on the underside first which is hopefully unvarnished and see what results you get. remember with oil the colour will build, its not instant like varnish.

Wood always looks a lot darker in Brum because of all the pollution.

Hey Mendip, how are those beans you planted coming. As I recall, it was the battle of the British vs. Thai varieties.

^ I lost interest in the beans, to be honest Topper.

The plants are still going but coming to the end. We didn't get a single bean from the English Purple Emperor plants although they were a lot leafier than the Thai plants. We had plenty of red flowers but the bladdy sparrows seem to like eating them. It's strange that they don't go for the purple flowers of the Thai beans.

These Thai long bean plants on the last trellis are still producing but not for much longer.

I may have these with my tea tonight. All in all it's bean a lot of work for maybe five of six portions of beans, but at least tonight will make it seven... whoops, sorry Reg!

The peas have been equally disappointing and unless the gardener has bean secretly helping himself, I don't think there's bean more than three portions of peas. I won't bother again.

You have said before that rat snakes are harmless. I have seen a small one lunge repeatedly after a bloke who thought to provoke it and that big one in my garden with its head raised defensively was well worth standing clear of, they have a long lunge projection, so the book says. They will bite and even though non-venomous for we humans, I include all TDers here, they have a lot of fine teeth. Those teeth can break off in the skin and turn septic. Best to respect a big ratty.
I remember a similar story on a scuba dive in UK, there was an old wreck with the boiler tubes exposed and a very large moray in residence. Someone who had dived it before knew about the moray and persuaded a newbie to wait at the head end of the boiler whilst he went around to the tail end the back. His cunning plan was to tug the moray's tail, so making it spring out of the boiler tube and scare the bejeezus out of his buddy. He did pull the tail. The moray made a lightning 180 turn in the tube and lunged out, just missing him. He's never since tried to grab a moray.

Here is one I recently got off t'Internet. Best applied with a lint-free cloth. I used an old T-shirt, hers of course. It dries to bring out the colour and grain of the wood.
Worth remembering that the surface is bare wood so you'll get ring marks from hot or wet glasses if you forget to use a coaster.
