    2010 Fortuner, any changes

Whats the scoop? Will they be the same as the 2009's or is there a new model in the pipeline?

I am thinking of trading up to one in a year or two from the Vigo as I think it will be to big in Chiang Mai for the mrs to drive, plus I like the added safety features of the newer models.

My Vigo is a 2005 and has been great, not one problem and still drives like new but am wondering what is a good time to sell with age compared to devaluation? Maybe spruce it up a bit and hang onto it forever is the best bet?

I have also been looking at the Chev Captiva, seems to be a nice SUV with an economical 2 litre diesel. Being a Chev second hand prices make it a pretty good deal and has a higher level of luxury than the fortuner as well as being car based platform. But then again, it is a Chev...

Dropped by Chev in CMai last week. ALL their current vehicles have promotions of 40K off and 3 years interest-free loans; if this is any help to you. Cheers.
BTW they never told me until I inquired as to any promotions; then they told me only of the 40K off. But never did tell me about the 3-yr interest-free bit until I saw a sticker on the rear window of a display car at the back. I said too bad because that model did not interest me; it was then I was told all models are interest-free (the promotion lasts until when, they did not say). hmmm...
My inner cynic is always on alert ….

I have the Chevy Captiva. (Petrol version)
Good car. Chose this instead of the Fortuner. As it seem to be the better package overall.
Preferred petrol engine as it was a lot quieter than the diesels. Especially in traffic.

There is a thread here, where some one tested the Fortuner, Captiva and ended up buying the Triton Pajero. Do a search. I would have searched, but I am busy at the moment.

Shorter wheel base and rear over hang. Easier to park but yeah, still big.

Captiva is the same dimensions but the Fortuner is taller with it's off road suspension so appears larger

3 year interest free sounds very interesting but they will devalue terribly I think.

Just went for lunch in my bosses Fortuner yesterday. Drives quite nicely and has fair bit of oomph for such a big lump. Surprisingly so actually.

Took a diesel demo for a 2 hour stint. It reminded me of the company's pickup. Thus felt cheap.

The registration papers for my Fortuner actually say Vigo on them for the "type"

IMV....They are identical from the front seats forward.

I would have no trouble buying a Fortuner, my Vigo has been a fantastic pickup and drives well, just big in a city like `CM. I bought it as it is nearly a Fortuner anyway but can carry stuff and can carry my bike in the back. I really like the dual airbags and stability electronics of the new ones though and could get a trailer for the bikes.

We'll only have room for one car in CM and a Fortuner/Captiva/CRV would fit the bill better for the long trips. Can't see me needing 4wd so a 2wd may suffice but there is always that time when you may need it and they are AWD. thirsty and more tax though at 3 litres compared to say the 2 of the Captiva.

Every review says the diesel is better in the Captiva, more power and better economy. Is the petrol adequate? That is what put me off a CRV (apart from the fact they are butt ugly)

We got that Fortuner that we bought and it is a good rig as far as I am concerned after some trips to CM and around, I do not drive it much but wife does everyday to work and shopping, the diesel is not noisy and had a lot of get go and I hear that they did come out with a Petrol engine, but the diesel does suit me fine as far as power and economy go and if we get another new car this year it will pobly be another like this one, only thing I am not to sure of is the dependability of the ABS, I had to panic brake once when an asshole turned at a light in front of me on a red turn lite and it just felt funny.
I would god damn sure lock it up at 80 KPH on a test drive if we do get another.

Apparently they are going to offer the 2.5 in upcoming models. Has similar power as the 3 litre but better economy.

That Turbo diesel sure surprised the piss outta me after the Chev and Ford diesels in the USA and then Mopar doing that one with the mitsu diesel and all were recalled and money refunded or Big Gas 440's put in and then the Cummins 5.9 that is a terrific engine but were a tad noisy,, but I am damn happy with this turbo 3 we have.

Have to say, even though I moan about the fuel economy I like pulling away from the lights and leaving everything behind with just the lightest tap on the gas

It's a good long haul wagon, plenty of room and not tired or sore.

I figured 15 kliks to the liter and between phetsanulok and utteradit I ran 180 and from lampang to CM was another 180 whenever possible.

Bought a new Fortuner (3 Litre Diesel) in August 2007. Fantastic car, and certainly in this (Thai) environment, good value. They brought in a 'face lifted' model (slightly different headlights/rear lights) at the beginning of this year, but no significant changes. Most Japanese models usually have a 4 year life before being replaced by an all new design, so I'd expect to see a completely new Fortuner late 2010/early 2011. Incidentally, no way is a Chevy Captiva anywhere near the dimensions/capacity of a Fortuner (I have a friend who has one). Nearest comparison with the Captiva for me would be the Honda CRV.

The Fortuner is also a good long distance cruiser. Last New Year we did a trip from Phuket to Chiang Mai (and obviously back again), with a car full of luggage and 2 large Golden Retrievers in the rear. Spent quite a bit of time cruising at circa 160Km/hour, still listening to music and without the fuel gauge showing excessive thirst.

Incidentally, wrt getting a small car for the 'lady' to drive, I had much the same idea when my lady passed her test about 18 months ago. Thought the Fortuner would be too large for her, so we looked for a smaller second car. Ended up getting a new Honda Accord, though that's not exactly smaller, virtually the same length. However, she feels happier driving the Fortuner now because of the height and view of traffic ahead, though we both love driving the Accord also. The Fortuner is a real tool though, what with carrying the dogs (usually to the beach), and also towing my trailer boat, as well as the roof rack for the odd occasion I take my sea canoe out.

Didn't quite turn out like I wanted but you can see the Fortuner is only 54mm longer, 9mm less wide, 174 mm higher, has a wheelbase 43mm longer and is 300kg odd heavier.

Like I said, it is only the height that makes it look so big. Maybe bigger inside too, I don't know.

Yes, much bigger interior size, particularly the 'boot' area. I had the 2 extra fold up seats removed to give the dogs more space, plus the one on the right side blocked the rear aircon vent whilst folded up (the location of the was changed to being roof mounted at the recent face lift.

There's a few Co's now that do those after-market kit type things for Fortuners, if you're into that sort of thing.

There's a black one that runs around CM that looks awesome. Just enough so that you can tell it's 'different', not so much that it looks ostentatious or silly.

A mate just bought the 2010 fortuner TRD and it is a very nice car but at 1.4 million baht I would be looking for more than what the fortuner offers. He is also fitting a monster dsm kit so it will be a very quick fortuner
