Andy555: Here's the club you're looking for.
Well, I just sold the BMW and now have some cash burning a hole in my pocket.
I need another road bike!
I'd really like a Kawasaki W 650, laugh if you want but I think they are a nice bike for around where I live and the classic styling will look good forever. I thought they were just a shameless Triumph rip off but they are actually a copy of a BSA A10 that they were lisenced to make and sell in the 60's.
The mrs should be able to sling her leg over it as well and there is a mountain of stuff you can get for them online. I like the scambler look.
Seem to be going for 130-140k in BKK for 2000-3 models with invoice. Most have only 10-20klms on the clock. A bit pricey maybe compared with the other usual stuff.
Any readers know of one for sale? I am off to BKK to look at a couple.
I called a guy in Buriram about one who said 130k B then called me back and said it was 160. When I pointed out he just increased his price by 30k B when he heard my Farang voice he immediately dropped it to 140k B. What a wanker.

1986 Kawasaki 900
Thats a ugly one in the picture.
They had one here in Khon kaen all decked out like a cafe racer tail hump and all looked really sweet
No idea why they are so heavy, not much stuff to strip off them. At least they must be strong and no plastic. suspension is shit and a drum rear brake though...apparently they are heavier and less powerfull than the original '60s model...
I wouldn't mind one either, rode one for a while, you woudn't wanna go a long way on one, but they are pretty cool and almost indestructible, I have a nice set of Peyton place retro megaphones for one at home some where. The price you are looking for sounds about right. If you can get a good one for 130 you are doing OK.
Generally, is it cheaper or more expensive to ride a bike (legally) in your home country or in Thailand?
I've priced a few bikes here and they're 1/2 again as expensive as in the US. Beyond that, there are outrageous titling and registration fees, forcing the end-price up to about double. Why is this? Cars and trucks are only 20% more expensive here.
What are Thai big bike (600+) prices like compared to where you're from?
Yeh for sure more expensive hereOriginally Posted by Texpat
Being a motorcycle rider here does have many draw backs like getting parts/ getting engine and machine work done in fact getting any thing done is a pain in the ass
Second hand imports used to be quite cheap here Tex and you could get registration (title) easily and for only a couple of thousand baht. Then in about 97 the jap companies protested that the imports were competing, so the Transport Authority saw a way to make some cash and pander to the jap companies at the same time by getting stricter on imports and bringing in the Long complicated procudure for getting bikes registered with Emmission and SAE compliance tests etc.
Initially the second hand imports were bikes stolen by the Yakuza (usually with the owners help, who then claimed on his insurance) and shipped to Hong Kong were they were split up and shipped off to willing buyers in Thailand and elsewhere, now they are nearly all bikes brought through auctions in Jeepun.
Over the last decade prices have shot up, 10 yrs ago you could by a bike for half the US price, sadly not now they are probably 30% more expensive then you spend another 60 K and up to get a plate for it. So unless you are from Norway prices here are not cheap as they once were.
^ Or Denmark PP...Fokking expensive there to...First a 180% import-tax and then another 25% VAT on top of that....Talking about taking it up the arse...

As long as you are the rider on the Blackbird, I could be riding a Honda Wave for that matter...Originally Posted by Spin

If I had the cash and could find one over here I would realy like a Honda Goldwing 1800. It would probably cost a small fortune if I could find one.
How do I post a photo on this?
You might want to check out google before getting that 1800 lead wing:
Why dont you bring along the gixxer?Originally Posted by Dalton
