Now my 1st Toyoto 430,000 & I still have it, now this is my 2nd Toyoto.

Why would Fondles come on here and make up a story about what happened to his truck? It's not like he is going to point Ford to his thread about it is he? If he drove it through a metre of water why would he come on here and say it was 300mm of water.

I reckon his inter cooler either had a loose connection in it or a crack as it is in front of his radiator. It would have still run normally but sucked in water when driven through it.

Either way, t is pretty bad a pickup that is supposedly able to drive through 800mm of water carks it on a flooded road with a sedan driving in front of you.

We found moisture in the map sensor but not the point of entry, all piping including the intercooler was pressure tested and no leaks found.

Entry via the air cleaner makes no sense as it was bone dry when I looked and still has dust in the bottom of it.

Moot point though as Ford Thailand policy is water in engine = warranty void no matter how it got in there.

Exactly! I've not taken it off the driveway since March. Should stop raining in November.

Having driven a Hilux Tiger for the last 12 years I was up for replacing it with a current model. However, students of mine who work as engineers in the QA dept at Toyota tell me that the company has lost much ground in sales due to their outdated platform and work in underway to bring out a new model in the next couple of years. Add on a couple of years to iron out the kinks.

On that basis I did a trawl of the ususal suspects for a new model. Ford didn't have any in stock, Isuzu had a showroom model but didn't have the keys either for a test drive or a gander inside, Nissan's was the cheapest but the salesman was such a dickhead (I sat with the Mrs for a full 10 mins before asking the Mrs to ask him who he thought would be buying, driving and paying for it? To which he begrudgingly replied 'the farang' at which point I asked her to ask him when he thought it might be a good idea to say hello to me?). Theirs was the cheapest of the lot coming in at around 640,000bt with free insurance.

I settled on the Mazda Pro but after a phone call from the 'sales' department telling my wife that their discount campaign was only open to Thais, I knocked that straight on the head. However, when the Mrs copped an ad for the Pro Series on facebook we both decided to revisit and confirm Mazda's position on their racial discrimination. The salesman we had been dealing with assured me that I would qualify and at 736,000 it was money well spent.

Luckily, they had one in stock in Pattas so I bought it. It sure is a headturner, filled with gadgets and goes like stink. Will keep it for the next 3 or 4 years and trade in for the next Toyota, maybe. Here are some pics

Only the Mazda Bt50 is uglier, I can't fathom how someone looks at one of those and thinks it looks good.

New Hilux coming, it will have to be a Ranger beater. In development now, I would wait for those.

I have a Fiesta, and yes, it has needed warranty work (steering column changed) what a bunch of numptys working there (main dealer Chiang Mai) every time I have been there there is someone in an animated conversation with the service dept complaining about some aspect of their cars.

Have a read of Fondles experience with his Ranger, I won't be buying another Ford.
Should have gone for the Mazda, squire. Check out the pics of the pro series in my post above and you might revise your opinion, somewhat

Nope. The BT50 is still the ugliest looking truck money can buy today.

Still, you obviously need to be able to carry many hundreds of kilograms of large objects around or tow a large trailer and never need to park it in public so you choices are limited to huge 1 tonne pickups.

If you just needed to carry some shopping, bags, golf clubs etc you would have just bought a car.

    Right?

Beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder because I quite like the looks of the BT-50. Anyway, it comes off the same line as the new Ford, right? I like the looks of the new Ford Wildtrack but by most accounts the new Ford is shite, or to be more accurate, the after-sales service is shite.

Then again, opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one!

Apart from the BT-50 being the ugliest car for sale in Thailand, it is the Ranger.

We have delivered more than 40,000 Rangers into Afghanistan and they proven to be more reliable than the Hilux.

Now you are being silly ! Of course they have puddles just like everybody else but the Taliban have forbidden puddles which are nearly 300 mm deep or more than that. Water is a precious resource and is not to be wasted on fecking up Rangers.

    Right?
Wrong. Pick-ups are the way to go out here given the tax rates on cars. Furthermore, given the state of the roads off the beaten track (and often while still on it) the extra height pays of when negotiating pot holes and subsidance. Of course, it also helps to deter the big trucks/Fortuners and buses from cutting you up.

Still, if you drove in Thailand you would know that, right?
