Oh for gods sake man, the dodge viper, another turd on wheels that will fall to pieces and lose half its value in a month.

The americans have only ever produced one car worthy of the moniker sports, and that was the original ford gt, or was it called a gt40, I forget, but for timeless appearance, desirability and sheer presence very few sports cars have even come close, and that includes ferraris and porsches.

It was succesful on the track internationally too, unique for a yank car.

Face facts, the corvette is nothing more than a spotty teenagers wank car, it even looks like it was designed by a child.

These days if you want a sports car that can be enjoyed on the roads, you need to downsize, both in bulk and in brute force, because you will never be able to use even half of thst power or speed on the road.

Ladies and gentlemen, look no further than the lotus elise, the lotus exige, the mazda mx5, the caterham superlight and the ariel atom if you want a sports car to have fun with.

All of them reasonably priced, economical, and most important of all, fun at sensible speeds

The corvette is a posers car, a boulevard barge, a dragstrip dingleberry, and a chestwig chariot.
Driven by haidressers, mid life crisis mentalists, porn stars, vegas lowlifes and trailer trash lottery winners. Its a joke, but like most jokes, its lost on americans.
Ford GT40 was a British built car with only the engine supplied by Ford.
Don’t argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

THE VETTE BEATS ALMOST EVERYTHING IN CORNERS AND STOPPING DISTANCE

    GOT IT ?,
No it doesn't. The 7ltr twin turbo beats most things in a straight line race (well, not really). They corned like a super tanker.

Anyway, canadian fool, we're not discussing snow ploughs yet, so fuck off again. You're canadian opinion is worthless when discussing sports cars you big gay.
look at the lateral G force figures you fucking idiot. Second only to a million dollar Mclaren.

For a road car, yes I would say a steel body is superior.

F1 don't use air-con either, does that mean it's not desirable in an everyday car....?

Racing has played a key role in defining Corvette as America ’s performance icon. America ’s favorite sports car stands at the pinnacle of international endurance racing for 2005, propelled by an historical undefeated season in 2004 that saw the team return to the top step of the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . When the C6-R debuts at Sebring in March 2005, it will carry the heritage of 50-plus years of Corvette victories on the race track, but no chapter in Corvette history has been as successful as the recent C5-R era, from 1999 to 2004.

The C5-R will be remembered like no other Corvette in history because it was the first ever official factory Corvette race car,” said Doug Duchardt, director of GM Racing. “We’ve not only improved the breed for the production car, but the racing program has proved tremendously valuable for what it has done to energize the corporation from the inside. From the moment of the car’s first test at Grattan Raceway in 1997, it was destined to do great things.”

A chronicle of Corvette’s success in motorsports could fill a book - several record books, in fact. What the Corvette C5-R has achieved in six years of sports car racing is on par with the great ones, including an overall victory in the Daytona 24-hour race, three 1-2 finishes in the GTS class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the past four years, three straight class wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring and four consecutive manufacturers’ championships in the American Le Mans Series. The Corvette C5-R was, simply, the best.

In 2004 the Corvette Racing team won every single race it entered, captured every pole position in each ALMS event, broke countless track records and did not suffer any unscheduled mechanical failures: over 10 races, no engine changes were required, no tires ran flat, no gearboxes needed swapping and no electrical problems surfaced. The same qualities that made the civilian Corvette J.D. Power’s #1 Premium Sports Car in Initial Quality seemed to be found in the racing variant as well.

Corvette drivers Ron Fellows and Johnny O’Connell, co-pilots of the #3 Corvette C5-R, captured the drivers’ title in 2004 over their Corvette teammates Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta. Corvette Racing won the team championship, while Dan Binks, car chief for the #3 Corvette C5-R, won the Mechanic of the Year award for the second straight year, following in the footsteps of his predecessor Bill DeLong, who won the award for Corvette in 2001 and 2002. In special awards given out at the ALMS season-ending banquet, Ron Fellows won the “Most Popular Driver” award while Program Manager Doug Fehan won the “From the Fans” award for his dedication to sports car racing and the ALMS.

Corvette Racing History: The Making of a Performance Icon
pinnacle of endurance racing? top step of the podium at Le Mans? As far as I know Audi has won Le Mans 24 hours since the year 2000 only missing out in one year when Peugeot won it.

That whole lot sounds like it was written by Corvette's marketing dweebs...

The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R is a grand touring racing car built by Pratt & Miller and General Motors for competition in endurance racing. The car is based on the C5 generation of the Chevrolet Corvette sports car, yet is designed purely for motorsports use. It became one of the most dominant cars in GT categories, with wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, and 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as championships in the American Le Mans Series. The Corvette C5-Rs debuted in 1999 and continues to be raced to this day, although the C5-R has effectively been replaced by the Corvette C6.R.

Lets review some of the retardation the emotional Vette haters have spewed on this thread... First up is pseudolus, then Chassamui...

-Indeed. It will be shit like every other US car, especially when introduced to a section of road where it deviates from a straight line.-pseudolus

-Performance cannot compensate for poor ride and handling which does not blend with the cars overall design.-pseudolus

-Let me try again for you. Chassis and dynamics engineering creates handling. Cars with leaf springs for example only stay on line by over kill of power. It is fake handling.-pseudolus

    -
As I said before we disagree on ride handling and performance. -Chassamui

-If the other cars don't have 600bhp and 7litres then it will make a huge difference especially considering the vette has excellent torqe and therefore bags of low end power. Doesn't guarantee it can corner.- Chassamui

Lateral G is a fair indicator of handling performance- anything over 1 G is supercar territory:

    McClaren MP-4: 1.06 G
    Corvette ZR-1: 1.05 G
    Aventador: 1.05 G
    911 S: 1.04 G
    458: 1.01 G
    R8: 0.97 G

Note the Vette also has the shortest 60-0 braking distance on the list from the link:

Note that the wheels in the pic above are probably photoshopped- I doubt any aftermarket wheels have been fitted to the new Vette at this point.

More complete and utter stupidity and ignorance by Chassamui.. To wit

-Properly built and engineered cars do not need oversized engines and raw 'performance' to keep them on the road.

-Seven Litres and 5/600 horsepower is rather wasteful in a country trying to be less dependent on oil based products don't you think?

-It is possible in the wrong hands because it's overpowered and a bitch to handle at speed as I pointed out, but which you ignored and neglected to include in your quote.

-You simply cannot refute that demonstration of unbalanced handling due to excessive power and poor engineering design.

-How can you possible deny that it is unconventional to use a high powered engine to control a cars handling.

Now lets see how the horsepower adds up to other comparable cars that the Vette haters have said they liked. (Aston, Porsche specifically )

    Corvette- 505-horsepower
Aston Martin DBS – 510 horsepower
    Porsche 911 Turbo S - 530 horsepower
    Nissan GT-R -545 horsepower

Another front wheel shot (again I'm not sure if it's 'shopped- considering the Vette emblem isn't centered I would guess it's real, though- these wheels might be a dealership option through GM as they appear to be a black anodized version of the stock wheels):

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Joking aside you can't argue with the fact you seem to getting a truck load of performance for the price.

General Motors has made it very clear the 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette borrowed more than a few engineering tricks from the mighty Corvette Racing C6R, leaving us to ponder on what exactly a C7R might look like. It seems our friend Jon Sibal was wondering the exact same thing. The designer recently took the time to whip up a rendering of an American Le Mans Series-prepared version of the new sportscar, and the creation looks as sinister on our screens as it did in our imaginations. With its exposed carbon fiber, matte black graphics, yellow lighting and center lug wheels, this rendering looks appropriately sinister.

The American Le Mans series is actually stacked with international brands, not just US makers- most of the cars in the Corvette's class are Porsches, I believe.

    as said

It is interesting to note that of the operating brands, most are high-end,
low-volume manufacturers. This is where our expertise lies, and where we
can make sufficiently big margins to cover our higher operating costs.
    I have reported your post

Those are only British brands though, not necessarily in British ownership either (in fact I'd guess most aren't).

Does that still make them 'British' manufacturers? Honest question, may be one of semantics but I don't really know the answer.

Some mighty fine cars in that list as well, as you would expect. Aston, mostly owned by Prodrive, is a British car again, so that would be mass production of a fashion. The thing that annoys me about the auto industry in the UK is the stupid decisions being made at a corporate level. It's not about staffing costs because Germany pays a lot more than they do in the UK for these types of jobs. It's poor decision making by the shareholders / owners which have fucked it. Take Land Rover for example. McGovern had the idea for the Evoque years ago. Literally started designing it in the PAG gaydon design suit in 2002. The powers that be though completely refused to take it to market saying it would fuck the brand too much. The Indians took the risk and it sold 100,000 in the first year. Jaguar the same; poured their money in to a shared platform X Type and the very ill conceived S type instead of updating the XJ. Callum almost left Ford (J Mays pleaded him to stay basically) over this; scraping his designs for the two cars now which are kicking arse after Tata told them to go make Jaguars as opposed to make something the yanks might like. Lotus used to make 4000 quid profit from the Elan on each car. They decided to appeal to the masses with the very good Elise, but the profit on each of those cars was 250 quid. Completely devalued the brand in one swift move and as soon as they had a problem with a car they lost money on each car; hence selling to the Malaysians.

Just a catalogue of disasters from the board rooms and near as damn it fuck all to do with man power costs.

PS - knock on effect from Tata allowing the British Designers to Build British cars? More jobs. Building a new engine factory and production platform. Ford.... wankers.

Actually I watched a really interesting doco on the British car industry not so long ago. Basically charted the rise and fall.

Wish I could remember the name right now but I'm drawing blanks!

Dave Richards owns prodrive, and was the leader of the consortium that bought the majority of the firm in 2007. The financing comes from a couple of middle east investment firms. To say on that basis it is not British would be to say that all American car firms are Chinese.

David Richards invested his personal money not Prodrive's so to claim Aston is mostly owned by Prodrive and is British again is categorically false in both regards.
