Teeth and claws vs beak and talons. Both creatures are perfectly adapted to picking on cute, fluffy vegetarians. Predator against predator is a different matter. If the eagle was in the air swooping down, I'd say it had a chance. As it is, grounded, it's at a massive disadvantage to the cat.

I'd say the claws of the cat are little match for the talons of the eagle, the eagle would have a scratch on its face, the cat's face would be sliced in two come first slice.

Eagles on the ground are slow cumbersome animals. You only need to look at the number dead eagles sitting next to a possum carcass on the road. No way an eagle can talon a pouncing cat while it's on the ground.
