Yes mate that's it, if it gets too hot to often the solder deteriorates and cracks and the GPU lifts off from the motherboard, stripping out the motherboard and baking it for 20 minutes to might allow the solder to reinstate itself, then again it might bugger it totally but as it's useless as it is it's worth a go.

So ask the wife "please will you explain to the guy (for example) "the red light was not flashing last time we plugged it in"
