Back later with more
Another one of those silly little oval panels from lanzarote , I’ve painted this today as my youngest grandson is coming over to spend the day with us Saturday and he is a very very prolific artist at just 5 years of age ,, he paints every spare minute he has , so I’m going to sit that up in front of him and help guide him through copying it as it’s going to be his first go at oils .
As and when we finish I will pop it on here
That’s the biggest insult you could possibly make ^
Right an update on my youngest grandsons paint with me sesh,, or indeed lack of it . Unfortunately we got a call Saturday morning saying they wouldn’t be coming over and could we go to them as his autism had gone into meltdown and he was going nowhere ,, however after sitting with him and going through some drawings he is now very excited to come over and paint ,, so watch this space , it will happen but a bit later on .
Yesterday I ventured out down the local Walton and Frinton yacht club and although the wind decided not to play ball I managed to cling on to my easel with one hand and turn out a reasonably mediocre daub from it ,, BUT more to the point amongst the people who stopped by to chat to me was a Mum and her disabled daughter who I would guess was in her twenties , she explained she loved to paint at home and spent many hours doing so and was it all right if she watched me for a while , which of course I said it’s my pleasure ,, anyway I ended up giving her a brush and letting her have a go then Mum asked if she could take pics of us together with the painting etc , so I put my arm round her which she loved ,, so why have I mentioned all this drivel ,, well for me this is exactly what I love about painting outdoors , I love interaction with the public and having a laugh , it’s not about turning out a masterpiece as that’s never gonna happen , but a great way to enjoy retirement .
Oil on oil board about A4 size
So this week we have been blessed with a plethora of very lively skies on the east coast here , here I have tried to capture a bit of one above the top of the Martello tower at Walton on the naze oil on oil paper 10” by 7” .
Local sketches / paintings of local scenes are allways popular with local people , unfortunately as much as they say they love them , it’s very very rarely these days anyone will love them enough to buy any of them , this is why I’ve mostly gone over to painting on paper now as it’s so much easier for me to dispose of them as opposed to the mdf boards I used in the past .
Tbh Wills it’s different but in a good way ^
Anyway ,, got given a nice commission of a much larger version of the old Vulcan painting I did before , which again was another commission .
This one is oil 21” by 12” on 8mm mdf and is going to sit in a float frame I’ve also made by hand
This was a bit of a challenge as my sight and steady hand isn’t what it used to be for fine work , anyway he’s well happy with it
Back up in lovely Northumberland for a holiday in the farm cottage , the weather is not really playing ball , however as a lot of Europe is on fire at the moment with the kinda thai style heat we will very happily make the most of our cool 13 degs
First holiday effort in acrylics is Amble harbour a place I love to paint , just an aside we saw the first 3 people in real life as we actually walked right past em 9 am Saturday morning spiced out their nuts ,, not causing any trouble but 3 people I’d say mid twenties on route one to death ,, not nice to see when there’s so much to live for at that age ,, anyway rant over .
