Smile The final link in the chain

I am very pleased to say my wife has now been granted UK citizenship , it's been a long road to get here with many hoops and hurdles to climb over and jump through , but in my opinion it's gonna be worth every penny as we now have freedom to travel together and to come and go without visas etc.

Now then thats enuf about us , I thought I would put this together to act as a rough guide and try to help others just setting out along this path , mabe your at the serious bf/gf engaged stage now with the bf living in the UK . Bear in mind these costs are likely to only go one way and that is up !

    1. Fiancee visa,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,£810

    2. FLR ......................... £850

    3. UK test...................... £34 each time untill you pass

    4. ILTR ....................... £ 1350

    5. Naturalisation ........... £ 836

    6. UK passport.............. £77

All in all .................. £3957 ofcourse goes without saying her airfare over around the £800 mark , plus you might well need to use a visa agency to get her first visa to get out Thailand possibly around the £2000 mark , allthough I'm not reccomending doing it that way , a lot do . At the least you will have to find money for translation of her doc's and have them certified as correct.

Good luck to any of you setting out down the path , if you wanna ask me anything to help anywhere along the way please feel free to do so , on here or PM me I will do my best to help you.

One BIG important tip to start with KEEP ALL THE EVIDENCE YOU CAN good luck
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Married my darling Thai wife, we get 1 year Multiple entry visas for her for when we need to visit back in Australia.
Not easy to get Permanent as she undoubtably found out, wish you well, hope your efforts prove to be worth it.

Well done. Having done it (US), I know what a never-ending struggle it can appear to be. Many just give up in frustration. Congrats.

Did the natrualisation thing couple of years ago with the mrs and yes it was expensive. She has 2 kids from a previous relationship and it was cheaper (and the right thing to do) for me to adopt them in order to get their citizenship. It cost about £40 for the 2 of them. Should have adopted the mrs!

Had a mate who did this with his Russian internet bride. As soon as she got all the paperwork, she was off.

That's funny and it reminds me of the cost of our marriage certificate in Thailand. It would have been about 40 baht, but we needed some English translation, so that brought the price up to 60 baht.

All is great, Nigel. Thanks for asking. Hubby is coming here for Xmas holidays on the 17th and we're aiming at getting me over to London in Feb or March.

Congrats mate, reminds me will be 3 years on Dec 14 that we returned to this godforsaken country, so what documents do they require for the naturalisation process and how long did it take from sending off the cash????

^ Cheers BB . I did PM you a while back as I knew you was coming up to this , our bank HSBC caused us untold grief over our application due to being over jealous gaurding our money . All I' say on this matter is if your with this bank notify them well before you apply.

You will need all the usual docs mate , originals , both passports , marriage cert, divorce certs if applic etc there is a full list on the UKBA website for you .
One tip here is to suffer the £50 premium checking service at your local registry office , you have to make appointment and they will check your form certify and copy all your originals and forward them on to Liverpool UKBA naturalisation dept.

About time mate , well took us best part of 3 months due to the banks cock up , but should be about inside 6 weeks for you good luck with it all

Just had a quick look through the form, i see they want to know about past marriages but not clear if just refering to the applicant or the applicants partner aswell, none for the misses but i had the misfortune to be married before and foked if i can remember what date i got divorced or the birthdate of the x etc.

My missus has been in the UK for about a decade, never been interested in citizenship, she thinks the UK is overrated. I imagine she could probably get it (or have gotten it) without the marriage cert..

Not sure about putting help on the web for little shedevils in internet cafes to read up on.

I can't believe some of the trash that gets let in, and you have to keep a straight face as they announce how British they suddenly are in pidgin English.

One of her Thai acqauintances can barely speak English, has no qualifications, and still managed to get citizenship via an unskilled bloke about 20 years her senior. There seem to be far too many like that, even Thai ones as well as the Fiipinas, Chinese, and Slavians who drop their spouses whilst the paperwork is still warm off the press.

Whilst I don't bear any ill will to you personally, I don't really approve tbh.

The only reason a spouse from another country should be with you (or children had with you) in your country (or you in theirs) is out of love; ILR (or its equivalent) should be enough for that. This is not a flame, just a principle.

Ditto only she took his house as well, and the latest Thai one has overstayed her 6 month visa by five years and costing him a fortune in solicitors fees etc etc

Nice feeling N&J giving the finger to Croydon, yes?
Must remind my darling she owes me £4000.00 +

Thats all good and well, if your only planning on travelling to and from Thailand. If a couple plan on travelling to other destinations, then it can be a right pain obtaining visas every time. My wife wasnt bothered for citizenship, it was I who insisted she get it, in order to make our lives easier.
