One of the Ducuments required for a retirement visa, is

Verification stating that the applicant has no criminal record issued from the county of his/her nationality or residence (the verification shall be valid for no more than 3 months).

As I don't think strolling into a police station will get me this, I was wondering if any Americans here have any ideas.

I did a search, and didn't see anything, If this has been covered before, then pardon the question

If it really says 'county' then a simple request at your local police or sheriffs station should take care of you. If, however, they really mean country, then this link might help:

Any local cop shop should be able to do the fingerprints for you.

Go buy a pistol, if they sell it to ya then you must be clean.

How bout that.

Of the mark a bit, but the Australian Embassy get the Federal Police to give you the report, they in tun check your state police before issueing the report. No fingerprints are required, unless you ask for Thai residency, then the Immigration Police take a copy for their files.

I thought a type O was for business, or work, and you need a invite from a firm, Sorry if I sound confused.

My plan this visit is to scope out whether I would want to stay full time. I plan on staying 6 months, I would love to be able to do some work, even volinteer.....I don't think I can play pool all day every day......

No mate, that's a B. And, never be sorry about any question you ask in this forum. There isn't a question stupid enough in here. In short, we're here to help, and it would do some members to bear that in mind.

Thanks I will look into that also, I just want to what will be easiest, to stay 6 months. After that I will deceide if 6 months at a clip is enough, or not. I ahve stuff to deal with in the states.

BOB, as far as I know, They might have changed it, But when I came I came on a Tourist that I got at the consulate in LA, and was good for 60 days with a 30 day possible by going to the Immig. office and paying I think 500 baht, which I did and then I would go to Vientiane and get another tourist and would have it extended at Immig office in Chiang Mai.
Eventually I did get the NON Immigration O in Vientiane and had it extended at 90 days to a retirement and now I go to Chiang Mai once a year and have it renewed and make my 90 day residence report thru the mail and I also have my own house book [yellow] too.
But since I never leave the country I do not ever need to get an exit stamp for easy reentry that I hear is possible.
That might be the way you would want to do it.

Note the word, "county."

I've had to get police checks in my "county/city."

It's a joke. I walk in. Pay $10 USD. Give my driver's licence, and the report is mailed to my residence.

It varies from state to state and city and county, but if they are *not* requesting an FBI background check then you don't have to get one.

Definitely check out this info. It may have changed by now.

I am an American from Washington State. You could even do this from a county you haven't lived in for say, 20 years.

But, confirm this.

^You're exactly right, it's a typo. And furthermore, whichever listless bureaucrat ends up examining the certificate probably won't know or care whether it's from a country, a county or a comic book. I'm convinced that Thai laws are purposely incomprehensible to increase opportunities for bribery. I always found that getting an educated Thai (an in-law, a trusted employee or a Thai attorney in a Westernized firm) to do all of this paperwork is preferable.

The local police station on their letter head can do a quick check for any "wants" and give it too you in five min. It is not a big thing. But I would suggest strongly that you get your first retirement/multy visa in the US and then renewal here in Thailand once a year is no problem and very easy, otherwise you end up making border runs for new visa's every 30 to 90 days.

if you only want to stay 6 months, you hardly need a retirement visa

just get the longest visa they will give you and renew it as and when

this might entail a little travel, but that can be fun

FBI the way to go. Got my O-A Retirement visa in Los Angels at the Thai Consulate and used the FBI report. I had no problems getting my visa

My plan is to find and marry a Thai woman and live part of the year in a condo which we would buy. Is this possible? Income is not a problem, since I can easily meet the 800,000 baht in my bank account and show a monthly income greater than 30,000 baht(or 50,000 baht). Is there a retirement visa that would let me do that?

another visa question, I will be LOS almost 2 months, do I really have to leave, to get a 30 extension? seems that they would be happy to just get money from me, in BKK.

No, if you get a Tourist visa in the states from an embassy or consulate then it will be for 60 days, and you can go to immigration in BKK or Pattaya and have it activated for an extra 30 days for I think 1000 or 1500 baht, so it will be good for actually 90 days.
The visa free entry or the VOA is a 30 day permit, but I would get a tourist visa from them in the USA before coming.
