    More along your lines, actually.

Most Thais won't use rice straw for a house roof for that for that very reason. It's too dangerous.

Great job Nawty and you and your family should be really proud of yourselves as this project was a family effort as well.

It was great to see everyone contribute and you have shown us all something like this can be done.

    Good on ya mate!

Does look good Nawty were you still planning to give the loof a haircut or was that already done. When the trees in front get a little bigger it will be magnificent.

Superb looking house Nawty, those bedroom walls look good. Does that matting come on a roll, or did you just buy a load of separate mat's and pin them to the wall? Do they need sealing?
I wish you and yours happiness in your new home.

The bamboo comes in sheets...from memory 1.2m x 2.4m or thereabouts and we just covered the joints with wood.

We sealed them or coated them with tung oil and hoping it prevents colour change and mould. if it is in full sun and or rain, don't think you can do anyh=thing to stop it going old and dead quickly.

I agree....very low....but he should just add it to his pile of other like minded stuff.

Circa 500/550k for materials and around 150k labour. Not sure exact totals yet as have not tallied latest pile or receipts.

Got 5 greens in a row from this thread, maybe more as not been on for a while.

So thanks to all for the comments.

This should finish off this thread almost, maybe some stuff to add later.

Like 2 days ago a swarm of bees moved into the balcony and took over the light above.

Decided to leave them till morning to see if they move on by themselves, next day still there, so i caught them all and placed them in me spare hive to see if I could relocate a wild hive......

Love the rustic look, it looks like a real escape. Would be pointless to build a country place and then spend half your holidays cleaning it. I think I'm going to use the screened-in-room idea for our Isaan kitchen. I've been trying to think of a way to keep it really open and airy but with the bugs to a minimum.
