    Is this weird?

I usually have one little connection icon in my system tray. When you hover the mouse over it, it says

    Local Area Connection 3
    Speed: 100 Mbps
    Status: Connected

Today, I have two little icons. The regular one (above), and a new one which describes itself as:

    Internet Connection
    Speed: 6.1 Kbps
    Status: Connected

    Right-clicking brings this up:

Clicking on Properties gives you this:

    In Settings it says this:

Is this weird? It it potentially dangerous?
The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

Unfortunately I can't see your images in Firefox, Chrome or IE9.

Is this a laptop? And do you have a wired, rather than wireless connection?

oovoo has set it's own connection, had to stop using oovoo as it was causing conflicts with windows by trying to open ports windows didn't want opened, caused my pc to crash every 8 to 15 hours.

    Huh?

What have you got running that's got hold of the ports Oovoo uses?

I would imagine if Oovoo had conflicts "with windows" and crashed every 8-15 hours its support forums would be somewhat overflowing.

If you click on "Properties" on the Connection Status Screen, does it tell you what device it's using? (It's a while since I used XP to be honest <heh>).

Hmmm that doesn't help, it only lists Services. Let me dig out an XP box and see what I can find.

I went to ooVoo, File > Settings > Connection and clicked Default, and it seems to be all better now.

I'll check again tomorrow when I switch on and let you know if I'm normal again.

    Thanks.

You haven't got ICS enabled have you? I say that because I found this:

The Internet Gateway icon represents the Internet connection on your
network -- it's either a broadband router or an Internet Connection
Sharing host computer. Clicking the Internet Gateway icon lets you
monitor and control the Internet connection.

I don't think that the Internet Gateway icon itself can cause
connection problems, but here's how to remove it:

    1. If you have an Internet Connection Sharing host, un-check the box
in the shared network connection's Properties | Advanced that says
"Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet
    connection".

    2. If you have a broadband router, connect to its web server interface
and disable the Internet Gateway. It might also be called "UPnP" or
"Universal Plug and Play". See the router documentation for details.

Out of interest, did you see what changed when you set Oovoo back to "Default"?

It is normal for the Internet Gateway icon to appear if a running program uses the UPnP service to control a router.
In this case it is oovoo opening ports in your routers firewwall to allow incoming connections.
    Nothing to worry about..

Well, setting ooVoo back to Default seems to have cleared it anyway. Thanks all.
