Unlocking an iPhone

I'm about to attempt to unlock an iphone 4. I've never done it before, I've never unlocked any phone before. It's not mine it's one of the neighbours, so It's not the end of the world if it does go wrong. I've been inlisted with the job as I'm a farrang and we are all computer genius's apparently.

But I was just wondering, if it goes wrong what does that mean? Is the phone fooked forever or is there a magic reset button that I can press?

Also any tips from iphan boyz would be appreciated as I only know about Blackberrys and this will be my first proper go on an iphone.

Both. I've already downloaded Pwnage tool 4.1.3 and pwnage tool 4.2 in preparation for the main event and I've got my step by step instructions.

It's too late for that. The neighbor who owns the phone was bigging me up to the other neighbors, and then asked me infront of them if I could do it. And I said yes.

Stupid question. If the phone is OS 4.1, do I use pwnage tool 4.1.3? and if the phone is OS 4.2 do I use pwnage tool 4.2?

At the moment you can only jailbreak iphone4's with the baseband 01.59.00.

Hers is baseband 02.10.04. Jailbreak not available until March 12th.

Well at least I didn't fook up the phone and I get another crack at it on the 12th.

Think you going to need a trip to MBK 800 baht should fix it for you.
I read this seem fairly easy but when its not your phone it always seems to go wrong.

Nah, I'm still confident I can do it when I've got the right tools. I've read the instructions about 10 times now and it seems pretty easy.

Both the normal guys I go to at MBK said they can't do it yet but I reckon I could if I had a 01.59.00 baseband model.

It's looking good though for the 3GS Jizzy. It can be unlocked if you've got basebands:

04.26.08
05.11.07
05.12.01
05.13.04
06.15.00

Go to Settings>General>About>Modem Firmware. The Modem Firmware number is your Baseband.

I jailbroke mine and then downloaded a sodtware update that reversed it and changed all my ringtones back.

Shit feature of the iphone being unable to set ringtones without a pavlova....(joke...before LT pops up)

The unlocking is fairly simple, but yeah unfortunately for the 4, only the first few released by ATT can be unlocked until the new update is done.

The unlock for the 3GS is simple if you have the newer bootrom, just create custom firmware using the iPad baseband v. 06.15.00.
