    Linux OpenSuSe vs USB modem

Well, maybe there is a Linux nerd in here with knowledge in making my modem working - just bought a USB stick modem with SIM card - but my OpenSuSe will not recognise the modem! Actually NOTHING happens.

Until now I have used (in DK) a normal modem and no problems at all! Cannot see why there should be problems with an USB modem - but the internet providers will not give any support for Linux users.

I am a newbie in Linux too ;-)

^ Not a hope of it working. You would need Linux drivers and they are very unlikely to exist for that.

What make is your modem? There are plenty of USB modem drivers for linux around but the one you need will be specific to the make of your modem.

    BTW, OpenSUSE? That's for Germans

Germans? Ahh, but that's our neighbours so no problem! The modem only says HSUPA USB Stick, Model ME110, ZTE Corporation

open a console so you can type some commands

    lsusb

list usb , and then post the results - this will tell you if your computer actually sees something plugged to your usb port

to copy and paste from your console to the browser , highlight the text , then where you want to paste - centre click on your mouse ( I think , it has been a while )

if there is something in the output from lsusb that looks like your modem - also do a

    dmesg

    and paste the result here

but yo umight also want to conside joining a suse forum and asking them as I am not sure I can devote the time at the moment to help
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Have you tried NDISWRAPPER? It's a bit of a cheat as you use the Windows XP drivers, but it's often a much simpler fix than trying to piss about with Linux Modem support.

Why did you choose OpenSuse by the way? Ubuntu has a better chance of supporting your modem.

    Here you go:

    NDISWrapper on OpenSuse
