Review of the annoying Features of the iPhone

After owning an iPhone for over a month, I am ready to compile a list of the iPhone features I find highly annoying:

    1. iTunes: You need to install that horrible POS software on your PC. The interface is unbelievably stupid, the application works under all kind of silly assumptions, and the "options" are cryptic in true Apple style speak. It will resync and delete your things without asking if you don't pay attention and will liter your system with all kind of DLL garbage and things that you don't need like Bonjour and QuickTime.

    2. AppStore: You need to use this proprietary system to buy and download your apps. It has a lot of choices and that's nice, actually too much choice some will say, but that's not the issue. For some reason, the system keep resetting your password, claiming security reasons, obviously they are getting constantly hacked, which can be dangerous if you have saved your credit card number in the system. Then, every week, Apple seems to change their "end user agreement" and forces you to "agree" to it or else they will lock you out. You have to re-logon and reconfirm with your email or sometimes an email activation link. What a fucking non-sense over an agreement nobody reads or care. Very annoying. It seems to happen quite a lot recently, I had to reconfirm their agreement almost 6 or 7 times in less than 1 month.

    3. Virtual Keyboard: it's quite nice, except for one thing, punctuation is on a different "layout" so you need to constantly switch between the keyboard layout to type a full URL or your password when it is made of chars and numbers. Very stupid. Also no arrows key, only back delete. WTF ??? trying to select a character with your fingers is impossible so the need of arrows to move around the text would be the minimum, but no, not at Apple. Duh, too much thinking in their DEV department, overload.

    4. SMS: where to start ? it's unusable. First it doesn't import the existing SMS on your SIM, very inconvenient. Then managing the SMS you receive on the iPhone are quite comical. Usual UI non-sense, the trademark of apple. It looks nice but again impractical. For example, the icon to delete and move those SMS is called "Edit", I mean WTF ??? do the people at Apple speak English or understand the meaning of certain words in a computer environment ??? again complete disconnect with the real world.

    5. Contacts: same, but here you have the option to import them, which is nice. But again adding contacts will not be saved on your SIM, so annoying if you lose your iPhone. Managing them is also clumsy done.

That's all for now, I will add more later when I come across something new

That sync nonsense with the music files is incredibly annoying. I bought a Sony MP-3 player and it does the same thing; you plug it in and it wants to start sucking up every piece of garbage and old picture on your PC if you do not watch it carefully.

I found an interesting feature on my Nokia phone. For me it is worth the price of it alone.

If I put in a series of numbers I can talk to people. Not only that if I put in a pre-selected set of numbers I CAN TALK TO SOMEONE I KNOW.

This'll be a huge seller once word gets out, it was only 6000 Baht.

it's really not a phone actually, it's a computer with a mobile chip in it for Internet everywhere. Quite convenient.

I'm with Butterfly on this one. I use my iPhone to test my mobile software, take photos, pose a bit with the dozens of bar-girls who flock to my side every evening

For phone calls I use a second-hand Nokia, 800 baht and worth every baht.

I use a real camera, the iPhone could hardly be classed as a camera in my book.

The main problem with iPhones are the pricks holding them.

that sounds quite lame, can't you shut if off ? there is a new iOS 4.1 coming this week, it should resolve a lot of issues, above all for the 3G which is a bit slow under iOS 4.01

another annoying feature: you make a phone call and sometimes you want it stop, so you switch back to the home menu assuming the call has stopped, it hasn't even though there is no ring on the other end

Me too. That's why I got an iPod touch for 1/5 price of an iPhone as it does everything else (You can even make calls with Skype if you want to)

I dont get lost. I find navigation systems completely pointless.

(Anyway, the car has a satnav if I could be bothered to use it)

A phone as dumb as a 1965 rotary phone has other advantages; how many wives or girlfriends have gotten into the call history on these memory phones? It's an electronic tattle-tale. One company here (think it was Hutch) was marketing a phone that would allow your significant other to track you. What a stupid idea.

yep, they had some kind of locating device, very embarrassing

wasn't successful though, nobody was going to volunteer to get such a phone
