    Winamp versus windows media player

I've never bothered checking before which uses more resources as I normally use a couple of pc's if I'm doing stuff that is heavy on the cpu, ie file conversions or video conversions, but I'm down to one working at the moment in this room.

So I got some music on, surfing and some files converting in the background, damn it got clunky, so I decided to check in my task manager which uses the most cpu, seems windows media player uses about twice the amount of cpu to play music than winamp does, shall have a look for a drive with vlc and try that out, also winamp seems to be better quality sound, strange but true.

Winamp has to be the best music player out of all, certainly much more versatile and user friendly than WMP.

WMP10 is the best for music if you want a comprehensive library feature.

I use Media Monkey. It has everything you need to manage a large music collection and you can download tags direct from Amazon.

It will also let you manage and tag multiple files at once from their file names, or any way you choose.

The best and easiest way to navigate a music library in my opinion.

For streaming music I use Spider Player which hardly uses any resources at all.

Have to try that spider player, first time I have been down to one pc working in this room so need to save resources, find it easy enough to crash pc's when using 2 so 1 is a bit of a nightmare.

Winamp has no organistion skills, which makes it useless unless you've only got a few songs on your PC.

Media Monkey is pretty much the same as WMP 10.

^ Yes but you need to add the plugin from winamp into the mediamonkey folder.

Mediamonkey is basically built on the winamp platform.

Spider Player is one of the only programs I have ever bought. When you purchase the unlocked version you can actually record all your streaming music onto your hard drive.

Pretty sure a mac is just as easy to crash, I got 2 browsers open, 18 windows, music playing, surfing, and I'm using it gently at the moment

Check out AIMP2. It is only a Audio player and doesn't get into video. Reviews state that it sounds better than WinAmp, etc and after downloading it I agree. It is now the default player and I doubt I will ever go back.

I've got 30,000 tunes. I use winamp, I hit the button it opens My Music folder, I drag and drop as little or as much music into the playlist and it plays it. The crossfader and equalizer is much better than WMP, and the windowshade mode fits nicely above my screen. Also it has AOL Shoutcast radio which is great when you want listen to something else.
WMP has got some pretty icons but it's clunky in comparison.

My vote goes to MediaMonkey currently. It's the best one I've found for handling untagged mp3s using the directory structure. It also has nice add-ins for lyrics and album cover flows like itunes.

I really want something with user profiles though so each user can log in and pick up their own playlists, libraries, ratings, customisation.

My entire library is already there in WMP and I can easily choose by artist, album, genre and a couple of other choices. Works for me.
