I wouldn't bother with Ragtime, there are better options out there these days.
Which ones ? I'm really interested because everyday I've to produce business documents that include text, table and pictures and I don't know any software that do that better than Ragtime, I mean for a basic office worker like me. If there is one domain where I didn't see any progress for the past 20 years, it is this one.[/QUOTE]

How would you know, since you haven't made any effort, it seems, to look around or keep up to date?

Again, since you skirted the question of what it is you need accounting software for, and what kind of information you are trying to track, I am not able to give you any concise answers.

    Search - VersionTracker

The above is a link to a site that tracks mac software, and what using the search term 'Accounting' yields.

Using 'Billing' as the search term, and you get this:

    Search - VersionTracker

Personally, you will find Quicken/QuickBooks, MoneyWorks, MYOB AccountEdge, etc. They all have strengths and weaknesses -- MoneyWorks is incredibly powerful (and polyglot), while Quicken/QuickBooks is the old standby (though not what I would recommend).

Which software ? 20 years ago there was a huge list of application only available on Mac, but nowadays ?
Again, the question is the same, and you're not answering it - what are you planning to use the computer for, which is what the answer to "what software?" will depend on.

I'm not talking about the software available for the Mac (and it is a sizeable number, still only available on the Mac), but rather the software that every Mac comes with, and that is available from Apple for a fraction of the cost of Windows software - notably iLife (which ships with each Mac), and iWork (Office Suite - $79).

Though, from this conversation it seems that you won't be needing any of this, and not going to be using it - pity.

but was the Macbook 500Mhz available in 1998 or even early 1999 ? you have conveniently avoided to answer this. What you have is a refurb that was upgraded, I believe in another thread you were all cosy with the refurbs. Also, I doubt you could afford one in 1999 when you were still a teenager living in your mom basement.

Like I said we don't know what's inside and when it was bought.

Of course no 'MacBook' was available back then, as the 'MacBook' moniker only came into being when Apple abandoned the PowerPC architecture, and went with intel CPUs.

What *was* available in 1998 (and 1999, when I bought it) was the 'PowerBook', and that ones *was* available and sold in a 500MHz version (also a lower end 400MHz version).

I can assure you that this was not a refurb, nor a refurb that was upgraded to some fantasy 500MHz configuration. You're just treading water at this and going on a fishing expedition, instead of using your brain.

That's funny - in 1999 I was 35, and hardly sharing your living accommodations.

Dude, I gave you a screenshot of the system identifier. You know exactly what's inside. You live on some weird planet where people stuff fatastic hardware into old outdated hardware?

Then again, not so outlandish a possibility, as there are precendents:

Apple Disk ][ enclosure used to house Mac mini, enhance lives -- Engadget

Damn, you're right, I probably stuffed a Mac Pro motherboard into that Pismo, or maybe even a Mac mini (hmmm.... I wonder what that would take?), and reprogrammed the OS to identify itself as a lowly G4.

    WOOT!
