Just be glad you don't live in South Africa:

BBC NEWS | Africa | SA pigeon 'faster than broadband'

    SA pigeon 'faster than broadband'

Winston the pigeon was allowed no "performance-enhancing seeds"

Broadband promised to unite the world with super-fast data delivery - but in South Africa it seems the web is still no faster than a humble pigeon.

A Durban IT company pitted an 11-month-old bird armed with a 4GB memory stick against the ADSL service from the country's biggest web firm, Telkom.
Winston the pigeon took two hours to carry the data 60 miles - in the same time the ADSL had sent 4% of the data.

Telkom said it was not responsible for the firm's slow internet speeds.

The idea for the race came when a member of staff at Unlimited IT complained about the speed of data transmission on ADSL.

He said it would be faster by carrier pigeon.

"We renown ourselves on being innovative, so we decided to test that statement," Unlimited's Kevin Rolfe told the Beeld newspaper.

Winston took off from Unlimited IT's call centre in the town of Howick to deliver the memory stick to the firm's office in Durban.

According to Winston's website there were strict rules in place to ensure he had no unfair advantage.

Pigeons would be no use in LOS. They would be shot and eaten likely as not.

Don t know what is happening with my keyboard, but on TD every time I use the apostrophe key, and forward slash, I get a small box open, for "quick search" and I lose everything I previously wrote - so bare with me.

Baldrick: It is a totally new install, everything is new, we haven t had a land line in this village in the past ten years. The fault was traced to the little box outside, tt appears to be due to the lack of skill on behalf of the original installers, given the difficult task of connecting two pairs of cable together, holding them in place and at the same time performing the rather tricky task of tightening an 8mm nut. Obviously, a college degree is required. I hear they are now trying to recruit Paul Daniels and David Copperfield to perform this "slight of hand manouevre" - it is quite tricky, holding two bare strands of wire under a washer whilst trying to operate an 8mm socket wrench - bravo to them, that is all I can say - keep up the training TOT.

Anyway, it is working fine, I managed to download 5 movies last nigh and each one is almost a Gig.

(I am still waiting to see what happens when it rains though) But if what Lom says is true - and I do not doubt him for one minute - then I need to sort out the stainless hanger cable - and, if it is stainless, then I doubt that I could have damaged the cables by simply getting the fat missus to pull on them)

Crippen - Did you know a survey was carried out that found that computer keyboards had more germs and bacteria than a toilet seat!

Daffy - That says something eh - happy I am in the Land Of Incompetence as opposed to the Land of Down right Shit! But that is funny though!

I checked again this morning with the speedtest at ADSLTHAILAND and got 2.3MBS download and 300K upload while browsing, running antivirus and a malware scanner, plus downloading two large files from a torrent site at 60k/s, so it seems ok!

which probably means you are luckier than most - you might be the only one on the local DSLAM.

you need to learn to only hoard the good stuff else you are going to quickly run out of HD space.

I watch them, if they are worth keeping I put them on DVD - else they are sent to the recycle bin.

Of the three million movies I have downloaded over the past couple of months, I have only kept ten or 12.

However, I watched a movie today that I actually wished I hadn't, (and there are not many that fit into that category - "Antichrist" - Jesus was that a bit too much, others on the list are "Oxen Split torture, and Ichi the Killer, but that Antichrist was a bit much when she chopped off the "little man in the boat" with a pair of scissors... and that bolt and grinding wheel through the leg..shit, if she had done it properly and drilled through the two legs, she could have used him as a wheelbarrow!

An update on the line problems, despite the fact that I spoke to them again this morning, and said the ADSL was steaming, they still sent out another two "try hards" who at least got off their arses and walked "the Line" (200 metres of badly kept garden - snakes and all) and checked the joints, but came back and reported the same - The LINE IS NO GOOD! - despite the fact I know it probably is no good due to me "pulling it" to hard, they still refuse to check the joints - a visual from 20 M seems to suffice - Mai Bpen Rai - so now the second team of "experts" have been out, they have filed a recomendation for a visit by the third group of proffessors, to replace the line - I am almost screaming - please it was me - I fucked up, but they want to go about it in their own merry way! It's over there - see, I fucked your cable! but they won't have it!

Looks like it is all free anyway so..fuck it, the internet is working now, only the phone is noisy, and I never use it anyway, let's see how this pans out!

And if this is the case, how would you separate them? I would be worried that I exposed bare wire on the carriers. Teeth? Pliers, Pincers...

I asked the TOT guy today and he confirms what you say 2x copper and one stainless, but he said my "hanging of cables" was fine.................despite the fact that the centre of each span is on the ground!
