Disk Warrior 4.1 Saved My Arse!

On Wednesday I was doing my normal back up between my different external drives and I slightly overloaded the file transfers which resulted in what looked like a total freeze on my finder. I left it for a couple of hours and nothing seemed to change so I decided to restart my laptop.

When my laptop restarted the smaller 160Gig portable drive was not showing up on my desktop or in my finder and when I went to Disk Utilities the drive showed up as empty and with errors!

Arrrrrrh I'd basically lost 140gigs of information. Mostly Music, T.V and Movies but the most important one was my most recent design project. Even though I'd handed in the final Jpegs to the client, all the A.i and PSD files were lost, so any further changes the client wanted to make would have been a huge pain in the ass.

A Google Search led me to Disk Warrior 4.1:

    DiskWarrior 4

So I got hold of a torrent for it and a serial code and downloaded it. When I ran the program and connected my external drive it recognised it straight away and came up with a message along the lines of "Don't panic, I can fix this." (its very user friendly)

Then one click of a button and 10min later, the icon for my drive popped back up in my desktop along with all the information that I thought I'd lost. After I'd high fived myself and had a little dance around my desk, I sat back down and BACKED THAT SHIT UP!!!

Disk Warrior 4.1 is for Mac but I'm sure that there must be a P.C equivelent out there.

This is the 4th time I've lost all my shit since being in Thailand, 3 times on a P.C and once on a mac, but this is the 1st time I've ever got any of it back. All previous times I'd just taken my p.c to Panthip and they have promised to get all info back, and then they just returned a formatted hard drive each time.

    Hope this helps someone out.

Your a true gent, but I feel I may get into to trouble if I now, after downloading their software from a torrent server, offer them some cash for it.

Does anyone know a P.C equivalent that may help out the P.C crowd?

That's why the right thing to do is to, now, turn around and by their product from their website, via download, so that you can pay them for saving your ass.

typical Mac crappy behavior, their filesystem has always been fucked up, you would think by switching to Unix, they would use a real UNIX native system, but no, they had to keep that crappy HFS !!! worthless, and no excuse to keep it these days,

Why would anyone with a PC needs it ? PC works, they don't lose partitions when there is an immediate shutdown, that's only a Mac thing.

In the PC world, all you need is a mini Linux boot and it will fix any partitions with all the opensource free software, not of that silly Mac crap that forces you to buy software for something that should take a simple utility 2 sec to fix.

    You missed this bit.

Anyway this thread wasn't intended to be a Mac v PC Thread. I know how you pc guys love that topic just doesn't warrant a conversation.

I meant all the information on the hard drive, and I've got no idea it just happens. Currently one of my bosses has had to send his 3 month old hard drive back to Seagate in an effort to recover lost files. Its gonna cost him about 6k and 3 weeks without files that he needs. So its not just me.

I was asking if there was a pc equivalent on his behalf and for others that have no idea how to get the info back.

plenty of undelete utility, you probably didn't ask the right person. Asking your local Somchai is not goint to help,

unless you smash your hard disk with a hammer, there is not much point into paying a premium service 6000 THB for what it will take Somchai 5min to recover

Yeah I just dont trust Somchai at Panthip anymore. 3 Times he said "No Problem, we get it all back." and then when you go to collect he says "Ohhh solly, I thought you meant format the hard drive."

yeah typical. To make you feel better, I saw it happen in the west too, notably with DELL. Idiot user send it to DELL with a note attached "don't delete my files", what was he expecting ?

he got the DELL fixed with a new hard drive

actually it happened to Scampy with his Mac not long ago,

he went to the Apple shop, give it to Somchai for a hard drive upgrade

First thing we ask him was, did you back it up ? his answer "no, why ?" 2 days later, new hard drive, all files gone, and Somchai go missing without answering his mobile for questioning why he deleted all Scampy precious files
