    Irritating Pop-up

I get this every time I boot up and at half hour intervals, and I don't know how to get rid of it. I've Googled it, of course, and I think it may be connected to TuneUp Utilities 2008 which I have installed. The only trouble is, I can't repair or uninstall TuneUp either (see second screenshot).

    Anyone know what to do?

On boot and at regular intervals:

When I try to repair, reinstall or remove TuneUp Utilities:

Trying to cure ^ I've uninstalled Java, downloaded a fresh copy and reinstalled, but without any effect on the original pop-up.

^ I knew you were going to say something like that before i even clicked on your reply. If you think dwarf jokes are predictable and boring, I think Windows jokes are predictable and boring too, especially from Ubuntu Johnny-come-lately know nothings like you.

    It's a windows virus.

probably some sort of untreatable spyware.

you can spend days on the various windows sites trying toi find a fix but ultimately you will need to re-install windows, should be good for at least 2 months.

The problem is only two days old, but a restore to a week ago didn't fix it.

it's true that I know shit about pc's which is why my life is a whole lot better with a pc that doesn't malfunction constantly with windows bugs.
could have saved myself a lot of grief by switching earlier.

You might have to uninstall it manually then. It might have the uninstall file corrupted or missing. I had to do it once or twice but this was years back.

    Er, care to say how? Add/Remove Programs - doesn't work; Unistall - doesn't work; Repair - doesn't work; Install - doesn't work...

Clean scans with Spybot, AVG and TrojanRemover.

Now Im going to say for a start i have no idea how this might affect the computer as Ive no idea what Tune Up changes on the system.

I can give you this link but it means a lot of tinkering and Im not responsible for any PC meltdowns and loss of valuable guff

    Uninstall Programs Manually

It might pay to wait a bit and see if anyone with more Win knowledge than me punts in.

You will probably find that you have to delete parts of the program in the registry till you break the poxy thing and can delete the rest in the normal way, try through task manager first by ending any suspicious processes and then try a main uninstall again.
