I am interested in a very basic explanation of how Firefox 3 would help me and if there are any down sides to switching. I now use whatever the ubiquitous microsoft software is called. Thanks and a green to all respondents.

I don't use FF3, so I don't know.

It's a long time since I used Explorer, but the main benefits of FF are extensions, but I haven't tried FF 3 yet.
Shouldn't the title of this thread have included a question mark?
But indicating to the reader that the op is seeking information rather than offering it might have been a good idea. Mercan edactud is my guess.
I am contemplating upgrade to FF3 myself. Generally, I don't upgrade if happy with the version I have. According to Mozilla, FF3 runs faster and provides better security which I like. A few other nice to have features as well but wouldn't compel me to update.
Firefox web browser | Features: Faster, more secure, & customizable
I will wait a couple of months to upgrade so Mozzila has time to "fix" the usual new release problems. The FF2 version I currently use works well for me and is an improvement over MS Internet Explorer IMO.

nice link, norton. thanks.
I upgraded to FF3 last week. This morning I attempted some online banking and the site refuses to work in FF3..
It worked fine with FF2, but now I'm forced to go back to to the dreaded MS IE.![]()
^ So -- both are still on your computer and you can switch between the two at will?
Much less spyware.
A few years back I could do a scan, come up clean, use IE and then scan again. Always something would come up. When using FF, nothing. Never used IE again.

think you'll find you don't use IE very often once you have used firefox though.
I downloaded FF3 last week, but seeing as i know fcuk all about computers i'm not sure what the benefits are, doesn't seem any noticabley quicker than internet explorer was to me.
Edit - one benefit i can think of, when reading the repo thread i can now see if people got given red or greens.
FF2 is still available here
Firefox 2
Better memory handling, FF2 had a bitch of a memory leak that meant the longer you left it running the slower your computer got. FF3 also has bookmark tagging, meaning you can say that a particular bookmark relates to "Thailand, politics, wankers, self-bukkake", or such, I find that very useful.
The Above Post May Contain Strong Language, Flashing Lights, or Violent Scenes.
^ That would be funny if I could read it.
What does it say?
And have a red.
Should I also edit my post?

It's easier to edit/falsify repo comments in Firefox as opposed to Safari.
Forgot to mention the built in spell check.
Get the British English one to stop them from whinging about your spelling.

Same as FF2.Originally Posted by Plan B
so -- the puter tard downloaded firefox 3. quite painless really. some things i really like. the spellcheck (redlines misspellings but i dont see where/how it gives a correct spelling), keeps a ready history of every site and page on the site you have been on, and the ablity to increase the size of pics with ease is a very nice feature. more search engines, tabs, an improved system of bookmarking (realtive to microsoft) and oodles of add-ons.
not having the drop down address box takes some getting use to. sometimes it seems to give up on a site quite quickly and tell me it is unavailable.
over all, from a tard, it gets 4.5 stiffies out of 5.
why don't you have one?Originally Posted by obsidian
i do.
i have it but it doesnt seem to be chronological and has added some shit i havnt looked at in months that got uploaded(?) from my explorer thingy. also seems to prefer listing starred or bookmarked sites. but as i said i am both dumb and new at this.
So basically, it's the same as FF2.Originally Posted by obsidian
