I wanted to be able to have iCal as a screensaver or desktop which appears it can't be done. Anyways this seems to be pretty good and will alternative.

Objectpark Software - MenuCalendarClock for iCal

It puts iCal up in the Menu bar across the top.

I dont know if many people use FTP programs much but Ive just switched from Transmit to Yummy. I downloaded Yummy on a 30 day trial and wont be going back to Transmit. Yummy seems to upload a hell of a lot faster than Transmit does.

I'm also getting a bit pissed off with Firefox 3. Its been peaking out my CPU at 100% and sticking up in that region, bogging the computer down and crashing a bit as well. I only have 1 extension,1Passwd which I cant do without as I have loads of usernames and logins, so Im giving OmniWeb a go. Its taking a bit of getting used to as the tabs appear in a drawer either on the left or right of the screen. If FF didnt have this CPU leak problem Id be happy with it, hopefully the next update might have some sort of fix.

Ive tried a fix where you go in the about:config but it doesnt work for long enough. I only have 2 or 3 tabs open at a time and they arent flash heavy or anything so its not down to that. Only thing I can think is my password manager plugin but it was designed to work with FF3.

    Gizmo

I downloaded this after the resident Mac attacker Butterfly mentioned it in another thread.

I use Skype for calling home but as my accounts an EU registered one when I credit the account with £10 it costs £11.50. Gizmo's credit is $10 or $20 so I thought I'd give it a go. Downloaded it and you get 10 cents of credit free so I just sent a text to a mate and topped the account up with $10. Took about 2 hours for the credit to show as I payed by Paypal which it did state that it could be up to 24 hours if you use PP, OK so far.

Made an echo call and all was fine, heard the message so all set up, or so I thought. Made a call to a landline in the UK and I either couldnt connect at all or it would connect but there wasnt any sound incoming or outgoing. Sent off a support ticket as its impossible to register for the forum, message back a day later that was an autorespond which was of exactly zero use.

Change the port mapping, restarted, changed the port back to the default, restarted and hey presto a test call to my mobile and we've finally got sound. Time to call the UK, it actually connected for once and I had audio, great. No, shite, approx a 3 second delay on any words spoken resulting in the voices and conversation crossing over. Wasted credit so I switched to Skype, clear as a bell and no delay.

Moral of the story. Dont download Gizmo5 and expect any sort of reasonable support and dont listen to BF.

    Link fixed.

Did you check that the DVD after burning contained a lot of files and possibly also folders?
The most common mistake when burning OS CD/DVD is to end up with the image file as one file on the CD/DVD..

I'm asking since there are a lot of folks there who has commented and said that it works.

I know what Im doing with it, its just there seems to be some problem with the download. Its a DL DVD and so far Ive tried the single layer sparse image ones for a 4gig DVD thats been stripped of the unnecessary stuff which just dont get recognised at boot and the 6 or 7gig full version from an external drive. It may just be bad luck as there are quite a few dodgy ones out there, Im having one last download of the full version, if it doesnt work Ill have to buy a 2nd hand one off Ebay and get it sent here.

I personally dont use Dashboard/Widgets very often but this one seems to actually have a use

    dropping, Inc.

Photo cropping, resizing etc on the Dashboard, saves opening a photo app for the basics.

    Utorrent
    UTorrent Mac 0.9.0.zip

After being in development for a while utorrent for Mac has been released. Not tried it yet but we'll see how it goes. Not private tracker friendly if you like having a decent ratio. leopard only and not really the finished product by far.

    Fix Tunes

This nifty little app is supposed to correct all the ID3 tags, tracknames and the like. If you have tracks that look like 009-The Beatles or whatever it should correct it to Hey Jude-The Beatles.

I made the mistake of letting this loose on my library and it made a right hash of it. If you have a duplicate of a song such as a studio recording and a live track it cant tell the difference and just puts them as the studio recording twice making it look like a duplicate.
Im in the process of reloading my library from the start.

The should call it FuxTunes IMO.

Instead of starting new thread I thought I would just ask in here as its a Mac question, I currently use Toast Titanium to rip my DVD's (from my torrents) but lately have had in increasing number of dud's where the audio is out of sync

So what do TD Mac users use??

This is without a doubt the one app I really can to without, you might be using this already.

    Blacktree

Quicksilver is the one app that saves me time, works great and has loads of uses.
Its an easy way of launching applications, navigating to files and folders, controlling iTunes and searching your computer. Spotlight can search for files etc but Quicksilver outstrips it by miles.

I was looking for a clipboard manager app as I come across a few things like links and stuff that I paste into posts, sometimes I want to copy/paste more than one thing but the clipboard only remembers the last item you copy to it, or does it?

Quicksilver has lots of plugins available like the iTunes plugin that lets you search the library and play tunes. It also has a clipboard plugin which when enabled gives you access to the clipboard history so if you've copied say 5 or 6 links you can access them and easily copy and paste them, it works with text and images. Cool thing about it is the clipboard history when dragged to the side of the page hides and shows itself like the dock.

Its great for just launching apps etc or if you really delve deep and learn it youve got a real power app and its free!

For all you radio fans out there

Rogue Amoeba | Radioshift: Radio on your schedule, only for Mac OS X

Streamed radio stations from around the world, theres a similar one called Livestation https://teakdoor.com/the-multimedia-f...vestation.html (Livestation) which streams TV and radio but for the TV side you need a good connection.

Radioshift is radio only, nice interface, you have a draggable map of the world with pointers for where the stations are i.e London, Milwaukee, Seoul etc. You can search by location, station name or genre. It does seem a bit buggy on 10.4 as Ive had to force quit it every time Ive opened it. It costs $32 but Im sure you can find it through the usual sources if you want to listen past the 20 min mark where it makes white noise or some other demo limitation

    Hello,

I'm a new Mac user. As my old PC doesn't fit my needs anymore I decided to buy something new and gave the old one to the neighbour's daughter who is studying in a university in Chiang Mai.

I'm a very lucky guy as my wife has decided it will be my Christmas present. So I just get a brand new 24" Imac three weeks ago. Absolutely impressive. The machine in itself is just a piece of art, great design and quality materials. The picture quality is wonderful and the sound is great to hear music. I'm a beginner on Mac but I enjoy to discover all the features it offer including the flawless updates.
I'll contribute to this thread if I find some useful programm or accessory.

Here is a pic, with my laptop on the right running Mandriva Linux.
