    Windows 11 upgrade

I have a laptop running on Windows 11 Pro, 22H2 together with Linux Mint on a USB Drive.
Last year, when running an automated update, I reveived a message from Microsoft telling me that my version of Windows had reached the EOS (End Of Service) and would not get anymore upgrades. Only the Security and Drivers would get regular updates, but the version would not be upgraded to 23H2.

I didnīt care to much about these upgrades and continued using my Windows version.
After the logging in screen, a message was displayed that Microsoft had chosen to close all the backdoors to hacked Windows versions and I needed to make a choice to a series of software I was using.

Example, my phone connection was a third-party program and this was from now on disabled and replaced by the Microsoft Phone connection.
Several programs I had been using for years, where all disabled and replaced by Microsoft programs.
I did a lookup in Google, and a lot of Windows users were reporting the same changes in Microsoft policies.

I don't want to ditch Windows at this moment, because there is no replacement for them in Linux.
    What would you propose?
Going back to Windows 7 and hope that Microsoft would not do the same trick?

These days with scammers and hackers having a field day, I would suggest a pen and a notebook might be the sensible choice

Or perhaps a pencil with an eraser on top.

A crayon might be more appropriate.

are these programs in the room with us now ?

everything in your post is gibberish , which is why people replying like they are - your windows installation is probably as infected as lulu's knob

windows 11 is not End of Life

I think you need to go and talk to someone who actually understands how t'internet works

ubuntu or linux mint is probably a good choice for you and I very much doubt you use windows programs of which there in no linux substitute
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

    1. Maybe it's "gibberish" to you, therefore I would advice you to skip this thread and go to the next thread.
    2. Who said that Windows 11 was "End Of Life"?
As far as I know, I wrote that my version of Windows was "End of SERVICE (WAS)", which is something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT (look it up in Microsoft or Google).
    3. No need to talk to someone about how the Internet works, but maybe YOU need it very badly.
    4. I use a lot of Non-Microsoft programs that are not available in Linux.
PS.: I use Linux Mint, not Ubuntu.

    From another website:

    PCBuilder and Setups Community
    KamilRzadzik
So, Microsoft decided to lock me out of my own PC unless I create aMicrosoft account with them, after using an offline account for sucha long time. All tested workarounds are now blocked as well.

Phone Link for Windows 11 is an application that syncs your phone with your PC, allowing you to view messages, make calls, see photos, and get notifications directly on your computer. To set it up, open the Phone Link app on your Windows 11 PC, choose your phone type (Android or iPhone), and follow the on-screen instructions to install the required companion app on your phone (Link to Windows) and complete the pairing process using a QR code or by signing in to your Microsoft account.

Windows 11 22H2 has been unsupported since October last year. Version 23H2 support ends in November. The latest version of windows 11 is 25H2, which rolled out last month is probably the one being referred to.

Funnily enough, in meetings everyone turns up with a laptop nowadays, apart from me. I'm still using my logbook and pen. However, when it comes to something that happened 10 years ago, or so, I can pick out the logbook with the entry, amongst the doodles, long before anyone can find the info on their laptop...

Good point! I make a note of who is in the meeting remotely and whether they are doing "home office". Into the little red book they go and all but a select few stay there as time wasters.
