pc not accessing internet with ethernet anymore

While I was back in my home country for 3 months there was a major storm which fried my 3BB router.

New router is providing wifi but using the ethernet cable from router to pc it is not accessing the net.

Message says No connections are available. I have tried another ethernet cable and the problem persists.

It then says Plug an ethernet cable into this computer.

Has anyone had this issue before and if so how did you fix it?

I am assuming the ethernet port on my pc also got fried.

Would like some helpful advice please prior to taking it to the computer shop.

I don't suppose you have a laptop or something you can try it with?

Because it that works, you know it's a problem with your PC for a start.

pc not accessing internet with ethernet anymore Reply to Thread

Am currently using laptop via an ethernet cable. No green or orange flashing light on the ethernet port on the pc.

Looks like a trip to the computer shop tomorrow.

Pc is around 10 years old so has done well to last this long.

Thank you very much for your help guys.

^wot he said. Get at least 802.11ac and USB 3.0 as it will work with all the latest routers and on new computers if you upgrade.

Will update after I get advice from the shop.

Yes PC is around 10 years old and I have been fortunate it has lasted so long. Drivers are up to date.

I only need a basic PC as I only use it to surf the web.

I do not play games or watch videos etc on it.

Will most likely just buy a new basic PC for around 15k if the issue cannot be fixed cheaply.

Thank you to everyone for your help.

Nemo has offered the best advice. Uninstall and reinstall the ethernet driver.

You could always backup the PC and do a reinstall of windows if that doesn't work. Now, if that doesn't work than a replacement for a 10 year old PC is in order, assuming you don't want to live with another option. This is probably true even if it does work actually...

Belarc adviser will tell you what the mainboard is, and then you can search for latest drivers for it, sometimes it shows "simple pc controller" or something needs doing; sometimes it shows no fault, but there is one - the computer equivalent of a guage fault.

You could get a tablet that does more for five times less.

Or perhaps a PC that old is starting to go tits up.

    It does happen you know.

You can keep it alive for a while, but what fucking use is it really?

Stick a kids Linux on it and donate it to a school.

if the 4 meg linux device was diced by a lightning strike it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the ethernet connected network port was also raised to a higher than normal potential difference - the peak inverse on a np junction is normally not much further north than 1kV.

you are probably up for a PCI network card ( 300 baht ) - though how easy it is to find one , I don't know - most discrete cards will be PCI-E now

which what why I suggested a USB wifi dongle ( 500 baht )
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Why don't you just say voltage? You are more likely to be understood by non-engineers then.
