Is it worth sticking an SSD and new windows in my old notebook

I don't really need a new notebook but might be working overseas for a while . Rather than buy a new one I'm thinking installing a new SSD as the disk drive is the most vulnerable part and stick new OS at the same time.

I don't do gaming and don't really want to spend 40,000 on a new one. Currently have an all-in-one on my desk but it is not really "portable" I don't really need portability in the sense of dragging it between home and work. Just leave it at home for personal stuff.

I suppose another alternative would be put "everything" I need on a portable hard drive and but a new all-in-one there.

Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
