Why is my PC faster in Safe Mode

Had a glitch today with my Chrome based browser. Adblock crashed or something. So tried to restrat the browser, same. Tried to use IE but it said network problem. It couldn't diagnose the problem so i thought I would try safe Mode with networking.

Blimey the speed of sites is amazing compared to "normal". So what does Windows or... do that slows normal operation down to a snails pace that Safe Mode does not?
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?

Safe mode deactivates all processes that would start normally. Sounds like you have a bunch of junk running in the background. Restart into normal mode hit control alt delete and then sort the running processes by memory and cpu usage. Then uninstall the resource hogs.

After I posted i thought that yes i could compare running processes in both modes.
I do notice that TD as an example waits for google analytics when running in normal mode and I didn't notice in safe mode.

That would not slow your computer down. It is the running apps and processes in the background that chew up memory and cpu that slows your PC down.

I run/open my computer on the clean boot option all the time .

Type run > msconfig > then click on the selective start up box> then restart your computer.

Your computer will start without all the other crap running in the background but anything you need will start oncer you open or start it.

Yeah but it slows browsing down, which a lot of people confuse with "my computer is slow".

True sounds to me like OP needs an adblocker. I use disconnect which is an excellent extension.

Add block plus changed to Blurr which I didn't understand so I disabled it.

I use this with disconnect.me and they work hand in hand. Both together work really good.

Going back to the OP, Safe Mode also uses the bare bones generic video driver which is great for speed but generally lower resolution and colour.

That makes a significant difference too, at the expense of picture quality.
