    Tropics is pretty hard for batteries. Keeping the Laptop on mains shouldn't be a real problem as the charge circuitry should prevent the battery from overheating. However some say the circuits are not that good and some damage can be done.

    Saying that all but one of my Laptops' batteries is still working fine. The 1996 museum piece has to be run on mains only. I rarely used my laptops on battery, they were all bought as "portable desktops" for use at different working locations. All have a ghosted disk back-up kept on different media depending on age of machine.
