    Fixing a remote HD

I got a WD hard disk about 2 TB. works perfectly except if the power goes out as did 1 hour ago, it won't read the HD. I can still access files but it wont reset seeding and it has a message.
Error: former volume not mounted. I can highlight each and restart, then it resumes seeding and downloading.

Normally I wait till marmite come around and he gets it right. But I think Marms tolerance for the elderly is wearing a bit thin.
I thought a Remote PS might help, it didnt.

It's because utorrent is starting before your external hd.

Change utorrent to not run on start up

Luckier than I was. Had one - 1TB - had problems, basically went bang but still under warranty so I took it back and they were kind enough to replace it. A couple of months later it too went bang.
    No more WD for me

I have found that intermittent external HD mount problems can sometimes be from power under-supply from the PC or the HD trying to draw too much power.

You can sometimes sort it by using a double power supply USB cable.

It uses 2 USB ports instead of one but one of them is just a parallel power draw.

Faulty USB port? If it worked before on USB maybe you have added USB devices that are drawing more power than before? How does that work Harry?

What happens when you plug the drive in to another PC?

For torrents I always use the local hard drive to avoid external HD issues and then copy them onto the USB drive when they are finished downloading and I am finished seeding them for a while.

I always prefer to DL to an external HD as torrenting works the hell out of a HD and I'd rather use one I can unplug and throw in the bin when it dies (which it will as we get low grade pieces of shit here).

3rd tier models by QA results are sold in Thailand. Fact.

This is from a former Western digital QA engineer that used to post of here.

Probably right but my one is the exact same model sold in OZ for what that is worth, anyway I plugged it into the laptop and it runs without a problem.

It's not about the model, but the level that it reaches during QC.

Well how about that, within 3 days of Marmite's timely torrenting heads-up my faithful media centre laptop, which I use for DLs, has, after 5 years of faithful service, developed the dreaded HD death rattle. I give it 2 days tops. So looks like I am up for a new HD and a day fucking around installing the OS and all the software.

Anyway, thanks again for the heads-up Marmite. Tried to green you but system won't let me.

Are they hard on a Solid state drive too ?

I recently put one into to my Samsung laptop ,as it had a right noisy Hitachi hard drive in it , which sounded like there was a couple of mice inside , gnawing and larking about.

now with the SDD drive , it's cooler, silent , and way faster .
