It's very easy to set up a file sharing system which is secure and has no need for encryption. All you need to do is to set up a FTP server on a laptop which allows others to access specified folders on your own machine. I recommend the cheapest and best - Filezilla.
This method can only be used by those of us who are fortunate to have static IP address (es). A little knowledge of "port forwarding" is necessary to set things up but it's really very easy and effective. I am able to allow friends access to a folder from which they can download copies of files. If I wanted to, I could arrange for them to have added privileges such as the ability to edit or delete my files or add new ones but I've settled for a secure system.
