If you have to sign up it's not very private is it?

If you a worried about that stuff then read up on Tor.

It's very easy to set up a file sharing system which is secure and has no need for encryption. All you need to do is to set up a FTP server on a laptop which allows others to access specified folders on your own machine. I recommend the cheapest and best - Filezilla.

This method can only be used by those of us who are fortunate to have static IP address (es). A little knowledge of "port forwarding" is necessary to set things up but it's really very easy and effective. I am able to allow friends access to a folder from which they can download copies of files. If I wanted to, I could arrange for them to have added privileges such as the ability to edit or delete my files or add new ones but I've settled for a secure system.
Why can't I make new posts?

Dropbox allows you to share files or folders with someone else.

It can be installed on just about any platform.

Doesn't really fit the bill of "Private, Secure, Encrypted, Anonymous" in my book.

No, ordinary FTP. I live on top of a mountain with relatively few people close by. Those who do live here are not exactly computer literate and none would have the least idea of how to intercept my files or hack into my internet connection.

My ordinary firewall in conjunction with the one on my wifi router is adequate defence. I have to consider that friends have very limited knowledge of computers and so I cannot complicate matters by using encryption. File transfer is rapid and my mates rarely tap into my transfer folder for more than two or three minutes. Access is only gained by knowing a "Username" and its set password. Additionally, the server is switched on only when I know they want to use it so the risk is minimal.

The amount of time and effort saved makes the server worthwhile. I would have to copy files to a DVD or CD and post them if I did not use the server. Also, friends in Thailand can access it just as easily as those in Wales.

Yes, as long as one is prepared to use a proxy server and pay money for using it. My provider gives me a block of ten IP addresses and each can be assigned to a separate device. Currently, only three of these are in regular use so lots of spare capacity. Of course, I can have ten FTP servers if I want as well, each with a separate address.

I wouldn't like the idea of using a third party server as it is my intention to have direct contact with my friends. I have security without too much complexity for them to deal with.

    I use sendspace

Free large file hosting. Send big files the easy way!

Sendspace is good. It sends an email to the email address you supply of your chosen recipient with a link they can downlad from.

or Adrive, but adrive is slow

Wow, that must be some highly confidential shit you're dealing with there.

I thought the whole idea was to spoof your IP so your ISP doesn't get threatening mail from anti p2p companies reporting your IP has been a bad boy.
If your going to upload to friends who cares what IP your using
