Possibly, but the thing that jumps out for me is that with all the solutions they've come up with is that:

The interface was originally intended to run exclusively on an optical physical layer ..<snip> However, it was discovered that conventional copper wiring could furnish the desired 10 Gbit/s Thunderbolt bandwidth per channel at lower cost
Plus, Lacie and WD already have Thunderbolt drives, but they are 50-100% more expensive than USB 3.0 drives they already sell.

I wouldn't have a use for one in the house yet, but if you get support for it on a motherboard you can buy now (with USB 3.0 slots already available), then it doesn't hurt to have the option down the line.

The big question is whether Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. start offering it onboard, and include internal drives as well. By the way, MSI are the #2 motherboard maker, so between them and Asustek they have a pretty big chunk of the market.
The next post may be brought to you by my little bitch Spamdreth

Thunderbolt seems as useful as 4GB RAM in your grandmother laptop

I would think that the premium was not worth it

if you decided you needed it later , put in a PCIe card

USB 3 on the other hand is backward compatible and does quite a decent speed - and at the moment ( and for a while longer ) most do not need more than 1080p streaming speeds
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

There's 13,603 Firewire results on Amazon alone, so I doubt it.

harryb, nobody fucking cares if they can gain 10sec for copying a 1GB file faster, only stupid basement retards like yourself are stupid enough to think it makes a difference, obsessed with tools and "modifications" that nobody care

do you really think that adding 8GB of RAM and upgrading to Win7 means you do more work than surfing porn or answering emails faster in your Level 1 Tech support job ?

So, this guy is some frustrated and bitter guy who was fired by Apple 20 years ago, and has been seething in some shithole since then?

Seriously, what's his deal? You sure he's Quebecquois? He doesn't sound even remotely like someone with a French education - those guys are usually smart.

Last I checked Thunderbolt's advantages are that it's daisy-chainable, and has huge enough bandwidth to drive up to six HD displays, and is faster than fiber channel.

Certainly no significant gains will be realized in single drive configurations, but once you have 16-drive raid systems for available for sharing, for workstation work, the advantages in speed become obvious.

For single consumer users, the daisy-chain ability, and that it's a tiny connector will matter. With it you can drive dual 27" displays from a MacBook. That's pretty spiffy.

Cthulhu you almost have Buttplug nailed; just chuck in his penchant for sucking ladyboy cock and you could get a job at Quantico in the BAU.

I'll certainly be keeping my eye on Thunderbolt, we shift a good few terabytes around each night and it's a pain in the arse.

I don't do gay porn Buttplug, but we all know you do, and I'd hazard a guess you're quite keen on the odd pain in the arse, too.

Let's have another look at you in action, eh?
