What with Google's enhanced powers of observation heralding a realisation of Big Brother by proxy and my intrinsic distaste for authority, especially that of Uncle Sam with it's bias laws I've decided to extricate myself form the leach like grip of Google.
But what are the alternatives? A mail server and search engine that is not owned by or allied to a US conglomerate..? Is there truly an independent, reliable and future-proof choice on the net when it comes to maintaining the right to ones privacy?
I of course feel that I don't have anything to hide, but then who is to say that the freedoms I have today are still deemed acceptable in 20 years time..? That my private information is not sold to the highest bidder, although that seems to already to be the case with advertising and marketing, perhaps in the future it could be available to employers and government agencies. Although I'm not so naive to think that it isn't already so. Perhaps I'm just fortunate to be old enough to remember that personal privacy was once a given and not a luxury.
