    Mac book price

Does anyone know what a 13' macbook go for. I want the black with 250gb. I'm in Europe where they are 1400 euro. Just wondering if I should wait a couple of weeks....Although the way my PC is performing I don't think it will last that long (it has come close to being smashed more than once). Also whats the best place to buy in Bangkok? I guess it will have the dual Thai/Eng keyboard? Thanks.

Looks like nothing coming out in the near future so if you find something you might as well go for it

Let see if Scampy will help out with this query.
He asked lots of questions on this board before he bought his and got lots of useful advice.
Interested to see if he is a "giver" as well as a "taker".

Heres a link to one of the retailers in Thailand

::: ShoppingMac.com ::: Macintosh for You ::: Macintosh for You

They have a few deals at the minute on Macbooks so check what specs you want against it. It might turn out that you get a better deal over here which is very rare. Generally speaking Macs are more expensive to buy in Thailand than Europe.

Which Macbook you choose really depends on three things.

#1: What you will be using it for

    #2: Your budget

#3: Your stability - i.e. Will you be traveling with it a lot.

I agree that Windows is crap and slow and prone to so many types of viruses and whenever I use a Windows computer I am constantly inundated with boxes appearing on the screen informing me of this or that bad news and what do I want to do and making excuses for not being able to load my Hotmail page in under five minutes etc...

Macs are not perfect, and I have had my fair share of annoyances, however I do ask a lot of it. Thus far they are immune to viruses and therefore way ahead of Microsoft.

Apples are expensive, and this is because Apple are a very arrogant and over confident company that thinks it is on the cutting edge of cool with it's minimalist casual indifference and stark bumptious simplicity.

This doesn't quite justify 1,000 baht for a rubber keyboard protector but as for the Mac itself (which doesn't need a keyboard protector or most of the other over priced-accessories) - it is a reliable and valuable tool for anyone with a creative mind.

As for where to buy in Bangkok, any iStudio will suffice. You can be sure the product will be genuine and each store usually has a fluent English speaker who knows what he's talking about.

There are Apple stores in Fortune Town, Phantip, Siam and Silom to name a few. The latter is my store of choice, the staff at Phantip are a little lost with foreigners. There's three stores in FT I believe, but my personal iShop of choice is the one in Central/Silom.

The staff don't speak great English but they have one of the best technicians who is often in store - if not they will get him on the phone for you.

If you need any more info, feel free to send me a PM.

    Good luck!

My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

Out of interest has anyone had much success in bkk in talking apple prices down? Here in Aus it has always been very difficult to walk into a shop and get a Mac under rrp, I have brought cheaper online and saved a few dollars.

Having said that however a couple of retail chains like JB Hi-Fi - Apple Mac are now authorized resellers and have 10% off sales every so often - problem is they also have limited stock and I have heard of people buying then waiting a long long time for their new toy.

Amazon (US) sometimes has very limited discounts on Macs. Hardly worth worrying about; unless you're buying a discontinued model at which point clearance prices can be very good.

Thanks for the info! I've seen them in the USA for 1400 Dollars which is a lot less than 1400 Euro..Pity I can't ship one into the EU. 55 500THB is 1100 Euro so it is a little cheaper in thailand then. I am passing through Dubai on the way home, anyone know if they are cheap in the airport there?

Of course there is the debate about mac/ windows but for me I am tired of having to fiddle with my pc while the mac users can just get on with it.

The dealer in the Big C on 2nd road in Pattaya offers a cash discount price on his machines.

I think the prices here are pretty competitive with the rest of the world.

    Are Mac's overpriced ? Yes.

    Are Mac's better than PC's ?

If you have to ask ..............

The MacBook might be slightly more expensive than the cheaper offerings from HP, Acer or Toshitba, it does represent and excellent balance of quality, utility, versatility, portability, and economy.
I'm quite pleased with the one I bought 8 months ago.
