worth watching , humerous in a cringeworthy fashion

the telling statement was basically none of the moderates will admit that their religion had nutter adherents - except for the cool old father outside the vatican.

    Religulous

Comedian Bill Maher examines the presence of religion in many of the big news stories of recent years, from Muslim riots over cartoons to the Ten Commandments in front of courthouses, a born-again Christian in the White House and Scientology in the birthing room.

This will be a short series. Welsh greats.

    Dorothy Squires

The stormy, glittering life of singer Dorothy Squires, the Welsh diva
who died a recluse, presented by Cerys Matthews

Dorothy Squires was a legend: one of the biggest stars of the 1940s, a
glamorous performer, a great recording artist and a true diva. She was
famous for her marriage to the young Roger Moore, her notorious court
cases, her outrageous behaviour and powerful voice. Her glittering
yet tragic, life began in 1915, in Pontyberem, and ended in the
Rhondda Valley, where she lived out her final days in a home provided
by one of her greatest fans

Presented by singer Cerys Matthews, this larger-than-life story is a
gripping reminder of the talent of one of Wales's true stars
Available on IP for those hard up for DL's

I like "come dine with me" where up 4 people take it in turns to cook a meal, they all score each other for 1000 quid prize. Most of the contestants are women, although they do have the occasional Poof thrown in there.
Its entertaining because they usually are a bunch of back stabbing fat bitches who think they are Gods gift to the poor British male,
Reminds me why I would never go back home.

On Uknova, Horizon "whats the problem with nudity" terrific documentary, explains a lot about human development, sexuality, development from a hirsute species to a largely hairless one.
warning: Lots of ugly nekid British people.

    Red Riding

Episode 1 of this trilogy was shown last week, and all I can say is, it was bloody great watching. Well worth downloading.

You can understand why Channel 4 hasn’t stinted on the publicity for Red Riding. It’s a hugely ambitious trilogy set in the Yorkshire of the Seventies and Eighties. Each of its two-hour episodes is made by a different bona fide film director. The cast includes Sean Bean, Warren Clarke, David Morrissey and Rebecca Hall. According to one of the writers, the overall plan is to create nothing less than a new TV genre, to be known as “Yorkshire noir”.
The series began with 1974, directed by Julian Jarrold (Brideshead Revisited). Despite all the advance publicity, it still arrived on screen with an undeniable bang – and has already laid a strong claim to being one of the most darkly powerful dramas of the year. Even so, I can think of several groups who won’t enjoy it much. Among them are anybody with a weak stomach, any retired officers from the West Yorkshire police, and any viewers who’d hoped that these tales of old-school coppers would plunge them back into the cheerfully irreverent world of Life on Mars.
That cheerfulness, mind you, was never very likely. After all, the series is based on the novels of David Peace, which combine fact, fiction and conspiracy theory to explore the Yorkshire of his childhood. If Peace is to be believed, this was an unrelentingly seedy and corrupt place, where the misdeeds of the police went far beyond giving villains the odd slap – and where all the people with any sort of power swigged their whisky, smoked their fags and plotted their crooked schemes together. As one typically psychotic officer put it last night, “This is the North. We do what we want.”

Now this isnt going to be pretty. I watched an episode of the Soprano's series 5 in a hotel the other day, a friend of mine has been raving about it for years and I just didnt fancy it at all. I have only watched one episode, but I must say what a load of shit it was, I cant believe the hype thats surrounded this and what I saw was a drawn out American version of Eastenders, that Tony bloke sounds like a moron. Doubt I'll bother watching any more.
The Sopranos is brilliant but watching one episode of season 5 I can understand why you get that impression. Do yourself a favour and download the first few episodes of season 1 and try it again. It's a series where you need to get into and understand all the characters and story lines going on to appreciate it.
    Quite coincidental.

I've got well over a hundred gigs of stuff to watch (Dexter, True Blood, Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock, Life on Mars, etc, plus 20 odd movies) but just can't get round to them. Yesterday afternoon I came across some old Sopranos on YouTube. Boy was it good. I decided to start watching the whole lot again. I've series one episodes 1 to 8 downloaded so far and got to sleep just after 4 this morning. I'm inundateted with work at the moment so probably not the best time to get re-addicted to Tony and the boys.

    Mayor of the Sunset Strip

this doco might be interesting to people who have a thing for celebrities , but otherwise not much of interest .

    The Weather Underground

This was quite an interesting doco on the activities of some of the members of the weathermen - a US counter culture revolutionary group of the 70's who carried out many bombings in protest of the actions of the US govt .

After watching Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares, I downloaded the American version. The difference is incredible.

The editing is music video style, the voice over is awful, the 'real' people in the show are not only dumb (like the UK ones) but hugely annoying and when it all comes together all you can hear is 'wow' & 'awesome' coming from their peabrain controlled mouths.

Truly dire, but I should've realised that when I saw the Fox logo on the screen as they are the experts at providing TV to retards.

    'Brazil' by Terry Gilliam.

Many of you will have seen it already. It won't be everyone's cup of tea and might be incomprehensible at the first viewing, I had to see it in two sittings and re-watch it to appreciate it.

Last week was the first time I saw it, so I can't compare it to seeing it earlier.

I think Gilliam deliberately created tacky-looking technology because as a science-fiction film buff with a sense of history, he knew that they would not seem futuristic for very long. The message of the film is still relevant I think, and I like the symbolism with all the air ducts as well.

    Philosophy of a Knife

The true history of Japanese Unit 731, from its beginnings in the 1930's to its demise in 1945, and the subsequent trials in Khabarovsk, USSR, of many of the Japanese doctors from Unit 731. The facts are told, and previously unknown evidence is revealed by an eyewitness to these events, former doctor and military translator, Anatoly Protasov. Part documentary and part feature, the story is shown from the perspective of a young Japanese nurse who witnessed many of horrors, and a young Japanese officer who is torn between his sincere convictions that he is serving the greater purpose, and the deep sympathy he feels for an imprisoned Russian girl. His life is a living hell as he's compelled to carry out atrocious experiments on the other prisoners, using them as guinea pigs in this shocking tale of mankind's barbarity. Philosophy of a Knife is truly one of the most violent, brutal and harrowing movies ever made.
Mortals you defy the Gods, I sentence you to travel among unknown stars, until you find the Kingdom of Hades, your bodies will stay as lifeless as stone.

    The Big Tackle

Austin Healy helps a bunch of struggling rugby clubs get their acts together. It was not too bad a way to spend 45 minutes and it was good to see that England use some of the drills that the Bangers do.
