I know this. I've studied campaign and elections.
My points is that even sophisticated people I know were very enthused about Palin's speech.
I think speeches by politicians should be read, not watched & heard. (Even reading speeches, only reveals abstract and obscure points.)
As stated, I don't watch conventions or listen to them. Occasionally, out of casual interest I'll scan a speech transcripts.
Again, these conventions speeches (and the coming debates) focus on the
low-info voters, and it's these low-info voters who are independent, who may tilt the election either way.
The marketing, branding, and staging of national politicians and political messages is an art. The of the best are the ones writing speeches, making adds, and inventing soundbites for the masses.
The real issues the US faces are not discussed.
