Yes, I think this is probably a good summary of the situation actually. And with a few trendy bar / restaurants around in Bangkok now (e.g. Coyote for Mexican, Indus for Indian, etc.) more middle class Thais are trying it and so the number of Thais who now like Indian and Mexican food is growing.

Sunrise is probably getting a lot of its Thai customers from people passing and seeing how busy the place is.

But, in contrast, you won't find too many Thais in a small Soi 11 or Soi 8 Indian restaurant; neither trendy enough nor busy enough to entice them in to try the food.
