They all demand money mate, it's when the parents and or relitives jump in on the band wagon that things go wrong

My experience of Isaan people is that they are more honest than elsewhere in Thailand.
And in experience Chiang Mai people are the most honest and genuine.
Laos are the most honest
^^ It might well apply in the north too- but southerners are much more grasping, I suppose more of a chinese mentality to biz,
they are quite honest indeed, Laos is where all the bandits come from

My in-laws are great people. Never demand money. Even offered to pay back the dowry (which, by the way, was given to them 50/50 between the missus and myself - not just by me).
They can be annoying sometimes (but then, so can I). I don't allow anyone to eat or prepare food on the floor, a major pet hate.
There is one 10 year-old nephew who talks at the top of his voice, so I generally head out the door when he is here. I have to keep on his good side though, as he wants to be a policeman when he gets older.
Paying a dowry is a bit old-fashioned nowOriginally Posted by puppy

^ Yep try explaining that the dowery or sinsot is old fashined and stupid. Watch the looks you get from the wife! Not ols fashined to them.
Too many types of Issan people to generalise surely, the laos, khamin, phoot thai etc atc, all very different in some respects. Just came back from several days in darkest issan where morlam is hardly played at all- all die hard fans of the harsher sound of kantrum, a drone like sound built around the saaw rather than the laos khean. Also a myth that most young girls from villages head for bar work. Wifes village has a large population and only one girl is know to be bar working-many of the girls these days have degrees, met several this week up their for a celebration. Sinsot definately is not dead in khamin areas.

True. The Midget won't talk about it with me now as she doesn't like the truth.Originally Posted by beazalbob69
