I find the Laos people in general amongst the most likable in the world.

But here's one interesting thing : In the past, parents from the North , Chiang Mai etc, would have ( or are ) willing to sell one or more of their daughters to a brothel for a short term financial gain that might help the rest of the ' flock .' As a general rule, most parents from Isaan would NEVER sell their daughters to a brothel and are usually quiet gutted when they find out that their daughter is not serving tables in Bangkok but Falangs in Pattaya. However, once the money starts rolling in and the Falang shows his face and seems fairly harmless they soon come around to the idea and then start fishing around for more falangs for their remaining daughters. In other words , they know a good thing when they see it, hence their devotion to Thaksin.

Toxin engendered a lot of good will in Isaan because of the way he brought down the cost of education, and the small business loans were very popular- and in many cases quite succesful. Believe it or not, Isaan people do rue the fact that their kids are usually denied a decent education- they're constantly badgering their kids to practise their English with me (usually, Hello, How are You? Good morning etc). And the small loans- many a noodle stand etc was able to get off the ground this way, and in one case I know a guy that now has a few Kubota's he hires out, he's doing pretty well.

You rarely hear a bad word about Taksin up there

The question is far to broad to give a definitive answer, both my answer are correct in my experience
